a big part of ossoff's rhetorical success is it doesnt contain the compromise and caveats that are a baked-in part of democratic party rhetoric. theres no pretending that his opponent is just misguided or will be pulled back from the edge by "the good republicans." ossoff is saying "fuck this guy"

When the Steamship Authority guys who see every fancy vehicle heading to Nantucket compliment your Ford Lightning, you know the future is EV. I can't believe anyone likes paying $5+ for gas and $6+ for diesel on the Islands. Even at $.40/kw my Lightning is getting 30+ miles per gallon equivalent.

I'm watching a YouTube on the new Ford Fathom. Underwhelming at best. For 30k: 50kw battery, 400v architecture. I'd rather a new Ioniq5 (800v architecture) or a used Ford Lightning for that money (400v architecture, but 98 or 131kw battery). Or save $10-15k and get a used I5.

Upzoning increases the value of property owned by existing homeowners. Some may not necessarily like the changes at first, but they will love it when they sell.

Yeah, it is interesting how the same manufacturer can make great engines for a decade or more, then a bunch of bad ones. Or simultaneously make great I4 engines and crap V6's. I had the Toyota V6 prone to gunking up, but mine ran great, had no problem selling it with 225k on it.

What are your thoughts on the new Ford EV truck? My take: it is Maverick-sized, I would have preferred Ranger-sized: still charges too slow; aimed to take sales away from Slate's truck and mid-sized utes (crv,rav-4). I think Ford is counting on non-coastal US to buy it.

Misinformation about cost is a problem. I'm in MA, new Ioniq 5's are the same price as hybrid Rav 4's. Leases are less than $300/mo and good used EVs can be had for 20k. With gas around $3.50-3 75/gal (sorry CA), electricity at $.32/kw is cheaper fuel. Towns with municipal power pay <$.20/kw.

Traded in my '17 F-150 with 90k miles for a '23 F-150 Lightning. Less than $40k with the big battery and luxurious Lariat trim. I traded my old truck with pre-war (<$3/gal) gas in the tank, I never paid $4+/gal.

If Maine subscribes to the Atlantic at roughly the national rate that is 5-5.2k regular readers. The top 30 newspapers in Maine have a circulation of 300,000. So roughly 1.5% of people who pay attention. Is that a lot? I'd say yes b/c you are reaching decision-makers but YMMV.
