There are some great Emoji Kitchen combos for rock. Combining with 🪄, 🕳️, 🍕, 🧚 First one is me on any hike, to the moderate exasperation of my husband.

It was one of those things we came to independently long before we knew each other, but in spite of this, Homestar Runner is a huge contributor to my husband and my shared lexicon. Lots of weird little phrases that pass between us regularly.

My husband and I would always see it at the grocery store that we made a 1.5h round trip to for produce. That was also called Martins, but was unrelated to the bread company. Owned by Giant, which is unrelated to Giant Eagle, naturally.

My mother used to really love their butter bread, which she could only find in some stores around them in PA. She no longer buys it. But pre-COVID, it got to be a joke where we'd send her photos of it any time we saw it in the bread aisle somewhere.
Several loaves of Martin's Butter Bread on a grocery store shelf. More are visible around and in the background.

Things my husband has said to me with a completely straight face and zero irony: "It wasn't orange; it was more of a browny-red color."

NMS is much more about exploring for me. With bases and building more secondary, but still fun and creative. Untitled Goose Game is all about creating chaos within the sandbox they provide you. Big Walk is from the same devs as UGG, and it's puzzle and exploration-based.

Dane Peterson @danep.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Both Minecraft and NMS have some farming (fairly light farming, but still there) and crafting elements like Stardew. In MC, the creativity of building things is what I find the most fun, alongside exploring. But you can also do creative mode if you just want to build and not gather.

Other folks have recommended these, but I'll second both Minecraft & Big Walk. Untitled Goose Game is a good couch gaming experience for two, as opposed to playing on separate computers. No Man's Sky is good for exploration and some of the sandbox-y building of Minecraft. But very different games.

I don't care that it's not as widely known; Please Like Me should be on this list. People can watch the whole thing over on Josh Thomas's YouTube, where he's made it available: youtube.com/playlist?lis... Look out, though. E2 & 3 of S3 appear to be out of order at the end of the playlist.

Fuck ChatGPT flyers. The future is broadsheets.
A crowded broadsheet with way too many fonts. It says:
Forget ChatGPT Flyers
Say it with
Broadsheets
Unlimited fonts
Stretch them
Or cram a really long sentence into one line for no good reason
No whitespace
Mix capital and lowercase
Pointing hands
(They're called manicules!)
Don't be left behind
Broadsheets are the future

Their specs say the battery is 5kWh, and the burners are 2.8kW on the 120V model, 3kW on the 240V model. Given that you're rarely running things anywhere near full, you probably have at least 4-5h of cook time, probably more.
010
Dane Peterson @danep.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
And it looks like the 240V version provides more power to the burners and other elements. 3kW burners instead of 2.8kW.

Oooh, Copper has released the 2.0 version of Charlie, its electric induction range. It now can plug into a normal 120V outlet! Bigger battery, more power. NYC is gonna buy a bunch of these for public housing, help bring the cost down.

My 9 games. May seem redundant to list Myst & Riven, but those were so formative. I wanted to play Myst sooo bad but had to wait until we got a computer with a CD-ROM drive. And I spent so much time in Riven. Kind of cheating with the Jak collection, but those three are too hard to separate.
My 9 Games grid featuring:

Myst
Riven
Tetris (GameBoy)
Earthbound
Jak and Daxter Collection
Final Fantasy XII
Portal 2
Minecraft: Java Edition
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

This is like the Andy Rooney game on early YouTube. People would cut the first and last line of his screed together without any of the intervening bits, and they frequently just contradicted each other.

My husband and I both really enjoyed that film when we watched it. I'm an infamous movie crier, and I welled up a bunch of times while watching. We actually have that one on Blu-ray. And a bunch of other queer cinema, too.

It’s very simple and it’s been said over and over but I guess it needs saying continuously: if you deem one group too small to have equal rights you are enabling fascism, not fighting it. The people saying Dems are GREAT on trans rights are not paying attention and/or saying stuff like this.
Nichole Hiltz
The Democrats defend the Kennedy Center but not trans people.
A building.

@treewarrior.bsky....
maybe because defending everything about a super small minority of the population is not worth losing to fascists

Growing up in rural PA, we had our power taken out twice by raccoons who climbed the pole and tripped the breaker on the small transformer mounted there. One was while a friend was over and we were watching Young Frankenstein. Thunder crashed in the movie, and all the lights in the house went out.

That is such a beautiful scene! Josh and I were both 25 when it started airing, and as I was watching it, I was amazed that someone the same age as me was managing to write this show. I think I'm probably going to end up rewatching it again, now. It has been a couple years…

Dane Peterson @danep.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
If you have the chance to see Josh do his stand-up, it's really worth it. We caught his first ever US show a few years ago in Denver. We would have been there again last weekend, but we were across the country at a friend's wedding.

This is one of my husband's and my favorite shows!! We constantly recommend it to people. The way he manages to give you pathos for a character (especially Alan) right when you're starting to get annoyed with them is really something else. And it also introduced us to Hannah Gadsby.

We have an EV, but had to rent a gas car for a wedding we attended over the weekend. I do not miss using gas pumps. Fast charging on a road trip, which feels like it should be relatively equivalent, is honestly a much more pleasant experience. Also, the price for the tiny amount we used! Yikes!

I mean, for the first few years of my life, our water was fed from a springhouse, a big concrete box sunk over a natural spring. There was an electric pump to pressurize the pipes in the house. Probably not the best, given how exposed it was. And given the proximity to train tracks and US route 6…

@mattbaume.bsky.social My husband and I were getting our haircut, and our older (also gay) hairdresser just used the phrase, "cha cha heels". Thought of your John Waters video because of your confusion over the term. Apparently it does get used in the wild!

Not only that, but when there were roughly 5M queer people visiting NYC for World Pride a couple years ago, with 150,000 in the parade alone, Grindr bore up just fine. Again, on top of the lack of evidence, these claims just don't make technological sense!!!

Dane Peterson @danep.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
The DNC has a larger usage spike than the RNC. It doesn't cause crashes. And it's user load that would be responsible. Hypocrisy has caused remarkably few server outages. ComicCon is bigger than either party convention, probably with more queer people. Also no crashes.

A couple hundred extra people at most, even if they're all logging in at the same time, aren't going to do anything to that infrastructure. And if it did, given that it runs centrally somewhere, it would cause issues in more than just one city!

Dane Peterson @danep.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
God, I'm so tired of this one. Not only is there no evidence, it doesn't even make technical sense. Grindr has like 3M active users in a day. It runs on load balanced AWS or similar infrastructure, not on little local servers.

Yes, you acknowledged screen size, before saying that you didn't think it was an impactful difference. It very much is.

Dane Peterson @danep.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
Having used both a phone and Android Auto, the size makes a huge difference. AA on a big screen closer to the level of the windshield is much easier to see, much easier to take a glance at and get upcoming route/lane info without really removing eyes from the road. Like having a minimap IRL.

We saw this VW bug with the Colorado EV plates a while back. Technically plug-in hybrids can also use those, but I don't think any such kits exist, so I presume this is a full EV conversion.

Same was true in the city of 12,000 I had been living in after that, about 40 minutes away from my hometown. Now I'm in a city of 100,000, and our local conglomerate-owned paper can't manage this. It's really frustrating!!

Something that is incredibly missing in a lot of local reporting is someone on the local government beat. I grew up in a rinky dink 3500 person town in the middle of the woods. Our daily newspaper managed to get to every school board, borough council, and township council meeting.
