Here’s my dearly departed Mabel. I’m missing her tonight.

Mabel, a tan dog with a white blaze looks a sleepily at the person whose knee she’s resting her head on.

In the greenhouse, a Bulbophyllum lobbi (?). It’s pretty big, about 3” top to bottom with very mobile parts. I did not get in there and smell it, because, well, it’s a Bulbophyllum and try generally smell awful. #orchids #bloomscrolling

Big orange yellow flower with an upright synsepal and down curving petals and sepals.

In the greenhouse! A pluerothallid of some kind. Looks like some kind of insect. #orchids #bloomscrolling

A small yellow orchid flower with what appears to be a fly sitting on it, which is actually the lip and column structure. It is held by a white mans hand and displayed against a bunch of tiny leaves and stringy rhizome.

Another new find in the greenhouse. It smells like Big Red gum. Unlike the Lycaste aromatica which smells like cinnamon and Lysol. No idea what it it, but the daily 1 minute spray has made a huge difference. #orchids #bloomscrolling

Bright purple pink flowers against green leaves and dried moss and black nylon netting.

Back to orchid photos. This is an unusual (to me) cymbidium. The spike is very short, so the flower is right near the bulb. #bloomscrolling #orchids #cymbidium

A vivid lime green cymbidium flower displayed near the black pot. The lip is lemon yellow with a blood red edge.

I found a new bloom in the greenhouse on Tuesday, a Xilobium I think. The flowers are neat, not fragrant, but look at the second photo. The cluster of flowers is maybe 2-3” across total, at /most/. The plant? About 18” tall and maybe 2-3 feet across. #bloomscroll #orchids

A cluster of white xilobium flowers extending down from the bulbs. They have red spots. The pot is terra cotta, the bench black plastic over gray wood.

The plant. A massive spray of leaves, pleated, maybe 2’ long, 6” wide at most. A tiny cluster of flowers can be seen at the bottom. The leaf tips are brown.

#orchids related, but not a flower. A post flower if you will. An orchid seed pod open with seeds visible. Orchid seed is dust like. So if someone is trying to sell you orchid seeds that are visible, it’s a scam.

A cork mount with a green stem and leaves on either side. A brown seed pod with dust like seeds within.

A vanilla orchid flower. The shape is starry with pale green sepals and petals. The lip surrounds the column to make a filled yellow tube in the center of the flower. Behind the flower are out of focus leaves and sky.

#orchids #bloomscrolling A very small red masdevallia from the greenhouse. Don’t know the species, but a brilliant red.

A red masdevallia flower against a black plastic mesh. The flower is bright red with darker stripes in the throat. The flower looks square, but is actually more upside down heart shaped with long tips at each point of the heart. Hearts have three tips right?

#bloomscrolling #orchids Another one from the greenhouse, a cattleya of some kind. I don’t know what many of these are because most of the plants in the greenhouse don’t have name tags. But it’s gorgeous.

A red cattleya flower on a green leafy background. The flower has a starry shape with a tubular lip. The sepals and petals are a uniform red orange, the tube is yellow with red, and the lip is bright red.

Went to Gold Country Orchids and Paph Paradise open house on Saturday. Spent way too much money, and took a couple of photos.

A gorgeous cattleya flower. Pale yellow and darker yellow below the column.

The greenhouse. A field of clumps of interesting green foliage. The occasional flower. All under a framed opaque greenhouse roof.

The greenhouse. A walkway with greenery on both sides. A man farther down the aisle. Some hanging masses of greenery. The occasional pink or purple flower.

A bright orange Cattleya type orchid bloom, spice Angel maybe?

A starry, yellow green Cattleya orchid bloom, with a yellow lip and dark spots down in the throat. Definitely Cattleya luteola.

A very dark red/black paphiopedilum slipper orchid bloom with a wide dorsal sepal. Sadly this beauty passed away.

Cattleya facelis. Two Cattleya orchid blooms, with green petals and sepals overlaid with dark blotches and a wide tipped, shockingly bright fuchsia lip.

Several people in dark suits enter a convention center or something. The lead figure has gray hair and is looking at the photographer. It is infamous Romanian dictator Nicolas Ceauceascu.
