An excellent time tonight at the @riocinema.bsky.social to launch @tomhuddleston.bsky.social's novel THE CRACKS along with a screening of CANDYMAN. Tis the season folks.

Finally caught this. A really fascinating follow-up to 28 Years Later. Loses some of the British satire and weirdness of three prior entry, but it's less concerned with that anyway and much much more interested in being a smaller, character focussed entry. Final hour is truly remarkable.

Caught this whilst off sick. Its alright. Lacks the surprise of the original, but has a similar energy. Hard to find something new to do with the franchise when you play your best card in the closing minutes of the first film, so it keeps going back to the same well over and over again.

This was incredible. What starts out as a true crime novels keeps on shifting time and perspective, traversing real and fictional worlds (and some in between) to ask questions about why we obssess over horrrific acts, and who should have permission to write about them.

Werner Herzog giving the clearest response to AI I've ever read.
t’s so standardized that AI can step in because there’s not real storytelling. It’s mimicry of something that has happened before. And I welcome AI to replace all the idiots who are into nothing but repeating, repeating, repeating until it’s ad nauseam. When it’s ad nauseam, please, please, please let AI step in and do the job.

Oh wow, I loved this. Such an interesting sequel, incredible performances, brilliant writing. Really really smart stuff on toxic masculinity, nationalism and just how much we've isolated ourselves as a country over the last decade.

Now reading @stephengrahamjones.com's latest. It's phenomenal. Jones is one of horror's best prose stylists. Every sentence rewires your brain. Also, most excruciating depiction of holding in a piss since The Pitt. Love it.

Thanks to @keithrosson.bsky.social for the kind words on my debut collection HUNTING BY THE RIVER.
"Unflinchingly weird and threaded with equal parts melancholy and menace, Carpenter's HUNTING BY THE RIVER reads like dark and sorrowful treatises penned in the world next to this one. Wholly unique and unlike anything I've ever read before."—Keith Rosson

Now reading. If nothing else, it's worth it for the story RUN FOR YOUR LIFE, which is the unholy mix of YESTERDAY and 11/22/63 and is a far, far more accomplished story about the Beatles than the former. What a fantastic piece of short fiction. @natcassidy.bsky.social @shortwavebooks.bsky.social

Gareth Edwards manages to get one or two decent set pieces out of JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH, but not even he can make the characters interesting, the plot compelling, or make us forget the dreadful trilogy that he's following. Saying this is the one of the better sequels is not the praise it should be.

Being a fan of I THINK YOU SHOULD LEAVE probably set me up for enjoying the hell out of FRIENDSHIP, so it's no surprise at all that I really really loved it. Echoes of THE CABLE GUY or the early, good, Duplass films. Nicely restrained Paul Rudd, and bonus Slipknot.

Call me Ishmael. Some years ago—never mind how long precisely—having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and regulating the circulation. Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping
