He's right and wrong at the same time. Yes, risk taking and taking chances, making something new and different, is absolutely something that should happen. But, if audiences catergorically don't want that product, and in the case of Digger, they 100% did not want it, that isn't their fault.

My current philosophy is that I am only going to use my PS5 when there's no other choice for me, but I've used my Switch 2 a lot more in recent months. Sony's damage to their image has been catastrophic. Spectacular, like setting fire to your own house when you're sitting inside it.

That's the thing about the MCU in general. When the writing is strong, it is as good as anything else, it can make you laugh, make you sad, even make you think. And then when the writing is bad... And it can be so bad. Yikes. And that's true of everything I guess.

The real mistake was McQuarrie doing 4 films. Creatively, he was out of ideas. And having a rotation of directors made MI feel unique.

My recollection was Final Reckoning doing terribly, but I guess it didn't. But for a final film in a series, and it being strongly advertised as such, it should have done a lot better. And they shouldn't have been allowed to spend that much on it. Same applies to Digger.

I mean, it is relative. It took just shy of $600 million. But for a final film in a series that was that popular? That's incredibly low, and they spent over $300 million on it, so factor in the marketing, there's no profit there.

I keep hearing that it was poor marketing, that the film is quite different to what we were shown, well, OK. But trailers are what people use to gage a film.

I have heard the same thing. But that comes down to a massive failure of marketing. I'll watch almost anything, but I don't recall ever seeing a more off-putting trailer in recent years. More original films is a great, but spaffing that much money on them is never a good look.
