Thanks to the small, yet mighty ABC team, who worked tirelessly to share the festival with the nation. Huge thank you to Stephanie Boltje - who has the hardest job at Garma, wrangling me! 📸: Che Chorley, Michael Bowers. Stephanie Boltje and all others who snapped pics and shared with me.

On top of the hours of live coverage and broadcasting for ABC it was an absolute joy to facilitate conversations with representatives from the Lakota and Navajo nations, and join a panel with my friends and old friends from NITV.

What an incredible #Garma! It was an epic long-weekend of politics, culture, and grounding, catching up with so many friends, Elders, leaders, and those who are paving the way - while making new friends and having important conversations!

As Pope Leo XIV takes the helm of the Catholic Church, there are renewed calls for the major religious institution to foster a culture of equality. Professor Anne Pattel-Gray joined me to discuss the role of faith and spirituality in a changing world. youtu.be/kEwMR50H40M?...

Professor Tom Calma AO calls for a rethink of Closing The Gap, with particular consideration around where health services are being accessed by First Nations people. The respected Elder said the election outcome is an opportunity to embed policy that improves lives. youtu.be/vL2Vz4kT1B8?...

What followed was an extraordinary meeting, on her birthday, April 20. The cultural advisor had the last official audience with the Pope, before his death. And in a twist, at Pope Francis’ funeral, Theresa would meet and chat with the man who would be named Pope, just days later.

Calls are mounting for humanitarian aid & supplies to be transported in to Gaza - amid fresh waves of attacks. Former Israeli diplomat & advisor to Prime Ministers, Alon Pinkas, joined me from Tel Aviv to update on the latest, and assess some of the politics at play. youtu.be/Mu03Z6k5E0s?...

Commemorated #ANZACDay in NYC, with a very thoughtful service, poignantly beginning with powerful words honouring veterans, from an Elder of the Lenape people. I reflected on the service & sacrifice of members of my family. Grateful for them & their commitment to our shared values. #LestWeForget

As we approach the 50th anniversary of Cylone Tracy devastating Darwin, I’ve been reflecting on the 66 lives lost and the families who were devastated. Below is the special program I put together, 10 years ago, for the 40th anniversary, when I was working for Sky News. youtu.be/wxwSgEU0vpQ?...

For me, this summit has an important connection to the past. I was a youth delegate to the 2007 United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, in New York. It gave me a powerful grounding in this important global forum and the issues raised here.

“Trump and his supporters have shown tremendous hostility to civic institutions — the judiciary, the media, universities, many nonprofits, some religious groups — that seek to define and enforce our obligations to one another.” Powerful from Masha Gessen www.nytimes.com/2024/11/15/o...
