We last met on a plane two months ago and planned to meet again soon for lunch. I cannot believe he is gone. Thomas Hylland Eriksen was not only a brilliant anthropologist but also an extraordinary communicator. The world is poorer without him. RIP 💔

I recently gave a talk on "The Politics of Hope" where I argued that we must balance the narrative of crisis with one of hope, backed by evidence and realistic optimism. Our politics should aim to deliver on this hope, ensuring that our collective future is brighter and more equitable.
