At least the bootlicking programmers are having themselves a good time, I guess 🙄
A screenshot from the 404 Media article linked in the quoted skeet, with highlighted text that reads, ‘about every two minutes, code checked that the camera was still running and logged the message, “Who’s a good boy?!” More than 12,000 of those messages appear in the recovered logs.’

In recognition of the anniversary of Billie Holiday’s death on this day in 1959, here’s my second favorite poem of all time, “The Day Lady Died” by Frank O'Hara. (After you read this, go listen to her music for a few hours. Your day will be better for it.)
The Day Lady Died
by Frank O’Hara

It is 12:20 in New York a Friday
three days after Bastille day, yes
it is 1959 and I go get a shoeshine
because I will get off the 4:19 in Easthampton
at 7:15 and then go straight to dinner
and I don’t know the people who will feed me

I walk up the muggy street beginning to sun
and have a hamburger and a malted and buy
an ugly NEW WORLD WRITING to see what the poets
in Ghana are doing these days
I go on to the bank
and Miss Stillwagon (first name Linda I once heard)
doesn’t even look up my balance for once in her life
and in the GOLDEN GRIFFIN I get a little Verlaine
for Patsy with drawings by Bonnard although I do
think of Hesiod, trans. Richmond Lattimore or
Brendan Behan’s new play or Le Balcon or Les Nègres
of Genet, but I don’t, I stick with Verlaine
after practically going to sleep with quandariness

and for Mike I just stroll into the PARK LANE
Liquor Store and ask for a bottle of Strega and
then I go back where I came from to 6th Avenue
and the tobacconist in the Ziegfeld Theatre and
casually ask for a carton of Gauloises and a carton
of Picayunes, and a NEW YORK POST with her face on it

and I am sweating a lot by now and thinking of
leaning on the john door in the 5 SPOT
while she whispered a song along the keyboard
to Mal Waldron and everyone and I stopped breathing

I’ve hated Alexi Lalas for over thirty years and this is both the smartest and funniest explanation of why you should also hate him any of us are likely to ever read. It’s perfect sports journalism. www.theguardian.com/football/202...
Lalas enjoyed a solid playing career, but he’s obviously not in the same league as Henry, widely considered the greatest footballer in Premier League history. This vast gulf in on-field pedigree has become more awkward as the tournament has progressed, with Lalas retreating into a meek silence whenever Henry reveals his depth of footballing experience. In a conversation where his co-panelist is casually reminiscing about his days playing alongside Messi or exchanging shirts with Ronaldo Nazário at the World Cup, what exactly is Lalas going to talk about – coming on as a second-half substitute for Earnie Stewart in a friendly against Scotland in 1998? Helping the Kansas City Wizards finish last in the 1999 MLS Western Conference? Did Lalas enjoy an elite playing career? No. But does he do the background reading that could compensate for his relative lack of standing in a conversation with titans like Henry and Zlatan? Also no. But is he charming or funny or charismatic or otherwise magnetic on screen? Eh, no.

Oh, I absolutely do not trust you, Slack, not even a little bit, not even—especially not—when you use cutesy language instead of actual details of what fresh AI hell you’re no doubt subjecting me to.
Screenshot from Apple App Store with Slack update notes that read:

Bug Fixes
• Everything is an itty-bitty bit better than it was before. Trust us.

Love, love, love this pro-em dash/anti-AI abbreviation tooltip on @kittygiraudel.com’s Interactive Cover Component blog post. They’ll have to pry the em dash from my cold, dead hands. 🔗 kittygiraudel.com/2026/04/09/a...
Abbreviation title tooltip on an emdash that reads “Yes, it’s an em dash. No, it’s not AI. I just enjoy using them — leave me alone.”

Really disappointing to discover I was correct six months ago.

I want every demon involved in this nightmare thrown into a pile in what remains of the Rose Garden and burned like the trash that they are on live television. Every last one of them.

It’s called “A Police,” taken from the infuriatingly vague and abstract euphemism “a police involved shooting” that headline writers like so much.
A POLICE
Dan Manchester

Inside a police there's another smaller police
like one history obscured inside another history
and they're both pointing guns both saying
show me your hands show me both of them

waving the dark weight of a gun toward the sky
so you reach up try to pull the clouds over you
like a blanket you want to close your eyes
make a wish but you know better than

even to blink would be a mistake
and inside the smaller police is the smallest police
like one word obscured inside another word
he's a child police at the top of the stairs listening

to his parents laugh at a tv white man shouting
words the littlest police doesn't know
but he laughs anyway so the middle police laughs too
then you see in front of you the largest police

he laughs too only his laughs sound like
gun shots and the next day the headlines say
police involved laughter and every news story
just blames the clouds for being out of reach

Just had to go into the client Slack channel and break out the best gif I've ever made for the first time in a good long while.

Despite the siege, my 10 year old managed to sneak in a soccer game this afternoon here in war ravaged Portland.
Children’s soccer game under clear blue skies and against a backdrop of trees.

Post a picture you took (no description) to bring some zen to the timeline
Photo of old factory now fenced off and largely covered in graffiti. A concrete block in front of the fence has red and yellow flowers painted on it as well as the phrase “Water the flowers”

To learn JS in ‘08? I made some poetry & fiction prompt generators at thepromptmachine[.]com. Got oddly high traffic for *years*, until I let it go in the MediaTemple/GoDaddy merger. Been rebuilding lately for giggles with Laravel, React, & Inertia. Loving it. Can’t wait for folks to use it again!
A screenshot of something called "The Redaction Machine" showing text from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice mostly blacked out, in the style of black out poetry, in such a way as to create a smiley face.
