Been way into translating my older poems into Unani Lenape, my ancestral language. Fascinating to breath life into a fading language. See how it still fits the current world. Maybe a chapbook this fall.

Methinks this could be an issue. A feedback loop chasing away more readers. Any other thoughts on this from Canadian poets, writers, and/or readers? Should our awards and the like be more inclusive?

The cowardice of tenured academic faculty not speaking out when pretendians are outed in their department is mind boggling. Front row seat of it here in Windsor, Ontario. Abject failures in morals.

This 1863 Massacre Was the Deadliest Slaughter of Native Americans in U.S. History. Now, the Shoshone Are Restoring the Site of the Attack
Amid mounting tensions between white settlers and the Shoshone, Union soldiers killed an estimated 250 to 500 Shoshone. Today, the Indigenous nation is working to bring "nature back into balance"

Jokerman, Tramp, and The Man in the Mask
Sarah Gibbs' The Hundred-Year Circus is a complex poetry book that merges lyricism, allegory, and history, reflecting on Bob Dylan and American culture. It challenges readers with its dense structure and symbolism, moving beyond conventional poetry collections. This work is a thought-provoking exploration, suitable for deeper literary analysis and cultural studies.

On Stifling the Next Generation, the Cult of Anointed Poet, and the Literary View from Ontario’s Deep South
The literary community in Windsor-Essex is struggling under the dominance of a small group of well-connected, aging writers, referred to as "the Cult of Anointed Poet." Their control has led to the decline of literary events and inclusion of diverse voices, stifling younger, marginalized writers. A generational shift is essential for revival.

Revisiting Nicholas Catanoy’s The Fiddlehead Nation
Nicholas Catanoy's "The Fiddlehead Nation," a rare Canadian poetry collection published in 1979, explores Atlantic Canada's landscapes and cultures through vibrant, eco-poetic lens. Catanoy weaves observations of Indigenous peoples alongside natural imagery, presenting nuanced perspectives rarely showcased in Canadian literature. Its avant-garde style offers readers a unique, road-trip experience.

Been reviewing my Works in Progress, trying to figure out what goes out next into the completion queue. Looks like a toss-up between a short-fiction mss (Shift Change) and an Indigenous historical fiction novel (Waters That Divide). Either way, good chance of a fiction/prose pivot in 2026. #writing

As follow up to the post about using Indigenous cultural symbols to promote non-Indigenous events: curator told me that they know best (non-native) and that I could consign some books of mine to sell to make up for it. Pretty gross. Par for 3 centuries of settler occupation.

A photo of poet D.A. Lockhart. Text at the top of the image reads "National Poetry Month on All Lit Up: Tributaries." D.A. is a light skin-toned Indigenous man with long, grey-brown hair and a grey-brown beard, wearing a floral paisley printed blue button down shirt. He looks serious and contemplative. He stands in front of a water reservoir tower at dusk, the sky darkening behind him. There is an inset photo of the cover of his book, Commonwealth.

Honest, one of the strangest new habits we've adopted this year is switching out US/American Beef for Australian Kangaroo. Carbon footprint sucks. Although Aussies are kin, so that's a plus. The pastas and chilis and the like are a lot more tastee. Strange year we're having.
