iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

5 years ago today Windows 11 was released to the general public and it came as a shocking surprise for Windows I still remember waiting for it (not to mention I was also mad at the strict system requirements as well) and now 5 years later I've moved on to Linux because of the enshitified state

Like if you want to know the evolution of OSes I've used over the years Since I'm GenZ: Windows XP -> Windows 7 -> Windows 8.1 -> Windows 10 -> Windows 11 (21H2-26H2) -> Fedora (desktop and laptop) No regrets

I'll be brutally honest here when I first heard about Linux the first thing that came to me was Ubuntu since it is the most popular distro I actually started here back when I first used Linux for the first and now both of my systems are running Linux full time with my laptop now fully converted

MacBook Pro in Krazy Ken's dimly lit lair with teal lighting. An iMac G3 sits behind it. On the MacBook Pro screen is Apple's website from October 5, 2011 with a black and white photo of Steve Jobs. The text says: Steve Jobs, 1955-2011.

As a new Linux user since I moved from Windows it's quite sad how we still have a 4% market share because the amount of AI Microslop is pushing in Windows 11 is just starting to get annoying

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Been trying different versions of Windows in VMs since I've been looking back at a time when the OS was about the user instead of monetization and enshittification like it is now Keep in mind I am someone with a IT degree and a now former user of Windows after 20 years hence the knowledge

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

As a new user of PCloud I'm very satisfied with the cloud service especially I was able to change my data center to the EU due to lack of privacy here in the US which instead have surveillance laws (PATRIOT, CLOUD, Section 702, etc) and because of being based in Swiss

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

And I love how Microslop is trying to get me back on Windows on my desktop PC (which as of now is my main PC going forward since I don't really use my laptop that much) I'm sorry but my mind is made up they lost a 20+ year Windows user because of the bullshit they been pulling these days on the OS

Let's go and as of today my desktop AIO PC is now running Linux completely (Fedora) and Windows was wiped from my internal drive No regrets 👏

Looked at mine as it rolled out and automatically classified me as a adult like nice try even I was in unconfirmed I ain't never doxing myself because that's the last dumb thing that these politicians want is people doxing themselves and "protect the kids" when in reality it's mass surveillance

The fact that IE back when Microsoft dominated the market in the 90s Netscape went under and the ruling in their case came too late I just honestly hate how our governments are blinded that we have antitrust laws for a reason to prevent unfair competition and harm to consumers

000

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

As a reminder this is bad for the entertainment industry as it will allow Paramount to unfairly dominate the entertainment markets We've seen consequences of monopolies like look at what happened to Netscape back when Microsoft dominated that hurted them and made them go out of business

000

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Already canceled my P+ subscription and also deleted Pluto TV from my devices

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Finally found a deal for another portable SSD that I will use for my video files after rendering them in Shotcut Due to price increase of these portable SSDs (thanks AI) I did not choose Samsung I instead chose Sandisk and I chose the older version since speed doesn't matter to me

000

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Bullshit and I honestly hate how this is going into settlement because as I said before this will give Paramount a monopoly and using unfair advantages in the entertainment industry My mother saw what happened during Microsoft's case and their tactics harmed the markets especially Netscape

031

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 20/09/2026

Even then it'll still give Paramount a monopoly and will use it for unfair advantages in the entertainment industry that's why it needs to be blocked Like I've said this before monopolies are terrible for markets and it will do more harm then good and settlements don't do shit to resolve anything

001

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Also exactly why I ditched Chromium completely as a secondary browser since I rather not support a monopoly because Google controlling web standards is a terrible thing for the web

000

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Been trying Orion from @kagi.com and honestly it's a very interesting choice to use Apple's WebKit especially to avoid Google's monopoly in the Chromium engine Quite sad that nobody takes advantage of using WebKit since it's the only other engine besides Gecko to avoid Chromium entirely

000

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

I honestly think this would be great because people don't realize that developing a browser costs money that's why alongside donations this would also help as well

000

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

Exactly why I hate the direction Mozilla is taking like why do they bother to continue to add more AI crap to FF when it's clear that nobody wants it Is exactly why I use a derivative (Floorp) and I hope they don't add this Can't wait for Ladybird

And I can tell you from my mother's perspective since she still remembers the Microsoft case that monopolies are terrible for a lot of things especially web browsers since majority of web browsers use Chromium in which is the dominant engine and it's terrible that's why I use a FF fork (Floorp)

010

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

Also exactly why Ellison is a fucking piece of shit especially running Paramount in the ground including shutting the Nickelodeon Animation Studios building in Burbank

010

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

It needs to be blocked end of story because the settlement will allow Paramount to have a unfair monopoly in the entertainment industry Like we've seen examples in the past of companies that have abused their monopoly including AT&T in 1982 (Telephones) and Microsoft in 1998 (Windows)

🚨 California says it wants to "protect children online". Yet, forcing EVERYONE to verify their age won't stop harm - but put all of us under surveillance. This rather destroys everyone's #privacy The fight against #AgeVerification must continue ✊ More: 👉 tuta.com/blog/age-ver...

This is exactly why I DeGoogled after initially learning their monopolistic practices in search though it wasn't until I discovered their predatory business practices in their products including their own hardware Is why I cancelled my YT Premium subscription and now my One subscription

GrapheneOS continues to reveal Googles active hobbling of the ability of OEMs to protect their users in favour of market exclusivity/protection, and pushing ahead with monopolistic anti competitive abuse hand in glove with GPL violations. Read below the break for the teams detailed analysis:

The fact that Google was already ruled a monopolist in the Play Store in the case by Epic yet they are now trying to make it harder to install competitors via sideloading even the 24 hour wait is very painful Not sure why the judge didn't look at it because to my knowledge it's anticompetitive

Nice even though GNOME is not my favorite DE anymore due to how heavy it is on resources I'm glad to see that it continues to improve

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

And not many people realize that when I went to Linux full time on both of my dual boot systems Fedora was actually one of my choices for a distro though with it being a Red Hat based distro and how shit Red Hat is these days under IBM I chose LMDE to avoid corporate influence

Gonna try something different for a password manager So I've decided to switch to KeePassXC from the folks at @keepassxc.org on my PCs since I want full control plus being offline means it's not subject to breaches I will continue to use Bitwarden but only on my mobile devices since I have premium

Dalmation @dalmation.bsky.social · 14/09/2026

Gonna give this a try especially as I don't like the built in one on LMDE

Just switched to @session-app.bsky.social from Signal and honestly I'm glad to see that development for Session is continuing with the funding because it's the only closest to Signal as Signal falls under U.S jurisdiction (PATRIOT, CLOUD, Section 702, NSLs, etc) since it's based in the US

Since I've started to use pCloud over Filen I will now start to rely on a cloud provider for my videos and video files from Shotcut Btw shout out to @pcloudapp.bsky.social especially for getting me over to relying on a EU data region to avoid US jurisdiction with the US region for $20 in a snap
