Husband, Father, Software Architect, Runner and now Author. www.helloworldthebook.com Wrote Hello, World! because after a quarter century of typing "Hello, World!" in new languages, I wanted to know where those two words actually came from.

The most obscure language I found still running critical infrastructure: MUMPS. Written in 1966. Still processing medical records for millions of patients through the VA hospital system and Epic. What's the weirdest language you've actually encountered in production? #programming #computerhistory

In 2006, a programmer named Graydon Hoare climbed 21 flights of stairs because his building's elevator software had crashed — again. By the time he reached his apartment, he'd started designing a new programming language.

Tony Hoare died last week at 92. He invented Quicksort in 1959. He co-designed ALGOL W, which became Pascal. He created the null pointer, which he later called "my billion-dollar mistake." One person's work shaped nearly every branch of the programming language family tree.

I spent 25 years typing "Hello, World!" in new languages and never once asked where it came from. So I spent a year finding out. - 90 programming languages. - 76 years. The human stories behind the code. It turned into a book. Comes out May 1st! What was your first language?
