I’m starting to see a pattern in the cover design of projects I am (or have been) working on

Played a bit of the audio version of my book, _Enslaved Native Americans and the Making of Colonial South Carolina_. I love, love, love the narrator's voice. Here's a flyer with a discount code.

Reading the Charleston County public official register from the 19th century. I wonder why there were so few additions between 1861 and 1866? Seems like maybe there was a disruption??

Charleston County register of officials, 1840-1894 (magistrates, notaries public, and constables). I just like the look of the cover.

Auto registration tallies for Newberry County, SC, 1906-1916. The legislature changed the law in 1917 to have the state take over licensing cars, but before it was handled by the counties.

Trying to figure out how notary publics worked in the 1840s in SC. Here is what James Henry Hammond (nice guy! 🫣🤢) thought when he was governor.

From the journal of an SC volunteer company during the 2nd Seminole War, 1836. “We had been here 2 weeks without seeing friend or foe” Seems like they went down to Florida and looked around but didn’t find much.

I mean, I guess the battle of Gettysburg looks different if you don't include what happened on July 3?? Pretty wild, either way. From Miller's Planters' & Merchants' State Rights Almanac, 1864

Bonds of public officials in the SC state archives. There are somewhere about 150 boxes in this series. I’ve been through all of them for every position that predates the 1868 state constitution. Included positions include sheriffs, coroners, court clerks, ordinary judges, and tax collectors.

1835 petition by John Bradley to the SC legislature, "pray[ing] that your honorable body may grant him remuneration for his loss." His "loss" was that an enslaved man he claimed to own, Moses, was "accidentally killed by the falling of the top of a tree" while working on the public road.

I love how the Confederates ret-conned the American Revolutuion in these bonds. There are tons of them like this one.
