I wanted to share a blackout poem I made at the last Possible Futures workshop bc it captures how I feel a lot of the time: "I'm often accused of being an optimist, and it's true As angry as I may be As disappointed as I may be My heart is a strategic opening" [excavated from a Reagan speech]

A blackout poem on a torn-out page of a book. The book title at the top of the page is "Speaking My Mind", and the page number is 337. The visible text reads:

I'm often accused of being an optimist, and it's true
As angry as I may be
As disappointed as I may be
My heart
is
a strategic opening

For a sneak peek into what our in-person workshops look like, here are some snapshots from our workshop in Portland :)

butcher paper covering a table with a few scattered crayons, a pair of scissors, and different drawings on it. There is a doodle of a robot labeled "grub hub" and another of a boat with clouds and a sun peeking out.

A group of people wearing masks grouped around a table covered in butcher paper, all taking notes under the header "Personalized Medicine"

Busy hands around a table covered in scraps of paper, magazines, cut-outs, and a few cans of La Croix.

(re-uploading with more descriptive alt text, oops!)

A sketch of a car on fire with plants growing out of the roof of the car, in the color orange. Text written in black at the bottom: Everything is on fire. But what happens in the aftermath of the burn?"

A sketch of a person holding a candle, sitting down, next to a plant, mushroom, and a bird, all in the color orange. Text in black says
"Many parts of the world depend on fire as part of their lifecycle."

A sketch of a phoenix flying up out of fire, in the color orange.
At the top, text in black saying "So when things are aflame, we need to remember". Text continues at the bottom: "To make space to create."

Our prompt this time: 🔥 Aflame🔥 Everything is on fire. But fire isn't just a force of destruction: it can also be a force of regeneration, illumination, and renewal. Come create with us and imagine otherwise!

Everything is on fire. But what happens in the aftermath of the burn?

Many parts of our world depend on fire as part of their lifecycle.

So when things are aflame, we need to remember to make space to create.
