Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 17/03/2026And guess what? That is also the biggest skill that a language learner needs! Some people will learn more quickly than you. Some will learn 'better' than you. But you will *always* succeed if you keep on keeping on. #LearnWelsh #DysguCymraeg 091
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 17/03/2026I was in an Eisteddfod last week - my kids were competing. The 'Llywydd y Dydd' said a few words that really struck home. She said that the big thing that compeitors learn in an Eisteddfod is how to lose, and to keep on coming back, better and stronger. 1113
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 16/03/2026Mae "Ers oes pys" yn idiom sy'n meddwl 'ers amser hir'. Mae Google yn gywir - "the pea age" (fel "the stone age") yw'r ysytr llythrennol (the literal meaning) 121
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 04/03/2026It might feel a bit weird, but get used to it, and you’ll speak loads more Welsh in your everyday life. And the person you're talking to doesn't even need to be a Welsh speaker. #DysguCymraeg 061

A good idea! There are a lof of children who would benefit, and parents who would be grateful! Why not do 2 or 3 videos and see how much interest there is? 051
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 19/02/2026You are doing exactly the 'work' tat you need to be doing, then. Keep on keeping on, slipping more and more Welsh into your English (to the bemusment of your countrymen...!) 010
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 19/02/2026I haven't looked at the course yet, but on the evidence of the books - definitely worth a look! 121
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 19/02/2026I get my learners to overpower their lizard brain by firing up the modern thinking part of the brain. Try counting down from 5, in Welsh, to get your thinking circuits moving. Lizard Brain will tend to pwdu (sulk) then, and let you get on with it! 020
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 19/02/2026It's why we all speak our additional languages better after a glass of wine or two. when we're less sensitive to danger. And you're doing the right thing. The key is to keep doing until Lizard brain learns that *no-one dies*! 100
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 19/02/2026It's probably your Lizard Brain. The oldest part of our brains have an important function - to keep us safe. But, Lizard Brain doesn't know the difference between a missed mutation and a Mountain Lion. So it freezes you, to avoid the danger. Useful in the jungle. Not so good in the coffee morning! 100
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 19/02/20266 and repeat... The problem is, most people (because most courses...) do 1, 3, 5, 7 and wonder why they can't speak Welsh after 10 weeks / months / years. 210
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 19/02/2026How to learn Welsh: 1. Learn some words - just a handful is fine 2 Use those words every day, over and over again, until fitting them together feels natural. Talking to yourself is fine! 3 Learn some more words - another handful is fine! 4 Use those words every day 5. Learn some more words 152
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 16/02/2026Worse. you will find that things you thought you knew are suddenly mysterious, and things that were easy are suddenly impossible. THIS IS NOT FAILURE. This is just a new phase of learning. One more step along the way. It too shall pass! 171
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 16/02/2026The first time you speak Welsh in real life, you will fall over. This feels painful, and for too many people, it’s the last time they speak Welsh as well. There are so many things that will trip you up. 161
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 06/02/2026And I realised that their Welsh was rough as ten bears. But I hadn't noticed because they just used it, mistakes and all, using English to fill in the gaps. Moral of the tale: don't sweat the small stuff. Just be bilingual ... 160
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 27/01/2026I should really add - if you enjoy speaking simple Welsh, then it won't be years before you speak well. But because of moving goal-post syndrome, you mwy continue to change the definition of speaking well to be just beyond your current level. Be warned! 030
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 27/01/2026And that is the key: Your no.1 goal should be to enjoy using whatever Welsh you have. That way, you are already a Welsh-speaker. The rest is just experience. 180

Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 24/01/2026Jen says on Bluesky that the first conversation is hardest, so be kind to yourself, take the pressure off: Don’t try to have a conversation. Just use some Welsh in every conversation, and see how far that takes you! 021
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 24/01/2026If you just pop a Welsh word or phrase into your English conversation, you won’t get drowned in Welsh by someone who thinks you’ll understand. OK, so what if it’s too late for that? Do you already have years of learning, but no confidence? 110
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 24/01/2026Really - if you only have one word, why not use it? You *can’t* have a conversation, so there’s no pressure. You *can’t* pretend to be ‘fluent’ with only one word. 110
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 21/01/2026Speak Welsh with yourself every day, - however ragged your Welsh is - and you will suddenly find that you are a Welsh speaker! 161
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 21/01/2026Your goal isn’t to *improve* your Welsh. It’s to get comfortable with the Welsh you have. That may *include* some technical work - getting better at stuff - but it’s all about using what you have, however ‘good’ you think it is. 110

Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 18/01/2026You don't need to be anywhere near perfect. You just need to get really comfortable with the Welsh you have. 040
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 18/01/2026Talking to yourself may be the first sign of madness, but it’s also the first step to becoming a confident speaker. Speak Welsh every day, even if you only talk to yourself, and it'll feel natural to talk to other people. 140
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 12/01/2026When you've used your little bit of Welsh once, use it again. And keep using it and adding to it. Remember, if you are speaking Welsh, that makes you a Welsh-speaker. (Duh! It's exactly what the label says!) 071
Cymraeg i bawb @dailywelsh.bsky.social · 12/01/2026If you've decided that 2026 is the year when you will become a Welsh speaker, then this is for you: Don't wait to be confident before you speak.
