This is what I saw first, so my initial thought was, Manaen did what now?
The above post plus the first sentence of the quoted post, for an entirely out-of-context take.

If you’re only willing to make improvements to places that have had crashes, you do not believe in vision zero, you believe in vision not another but if it happens again, we can look at that too. The main point is to prevent serious injuries and deaths.

Same, but I get over to State St after crossing the interstate on Church. More often, back when I took my son to or from daycare over there, I'd use Jo Johnson under the interstate then cross Charlotte to ride on Patterson.

Yeah, Google has Church marked as a bike-friendly street.
Google maps screenshot of Church St and 16th Ave N in Nashville showing a green dotted line on Church St indicating it is supposedly bike-friendly.

Point being, a 2.6 mile, 15 minute trip in a city should be a clear winner for bike mode share. But the route is dangerous and unpleasant, showing why most people still choose to drive (myself included in this case).

Going to Germantown this evening. Do I ride my bike on the most direct route in 15 minutes or the safe route in 30 minutes? The direct route technically has bike lanes under the interstate and over the river, but they are very much *not fun*. Neither option is great, so I'll probably end up driving.
Map of the most direct route from my East Nashville neighborhood to Germantown. It's 2.6 miles, or 15 minutes. It takes you under the interstate and over the river on 6+ lane roads with speeding drivers and little protection.Map of the safe route from my East Nashville neighborhood to Germantown. It's 5.4 miles, or 30 minutes. It goes way out of the way just to stay on mostly low-traffic, low-stress streets and the pedestrian bridge into downtown.

The renaming ceremony was held at Amqui Station. I can't imagine why they didn't want to have the ceremony at the actual bridge -- it's such a pleasant place to be a pedestrian 😉

At River North (along Spring St), I recognize it would be difficult to add stops because of all the right turn lanes and interstate ramps, but it's not an insurmountable problem. But in Germantown, I simply don't understand why there's not already a stop on Madison St or 3rd Ave N.

Gets decently cold here in Nashville. For both of us, dress as we normally would for cold weather. Add a buff over the mouth and nose if it's reeaaally cold. And a thin beanie under the helmet. For the wee one, a larksbikeblankets.com works wonders. For me, ski mittens over my gloves.

Update: I received an encouraging response from an NDOT supervisor after I complained.
Email from Marcus Jackson, Transportation Superintendent at NDOT. "Mr. David Posey, I have been made aware of your hub request 02286743 and you are correct Firefighter’s non-emergency vehicles are not allowed to park on the sidewalk. I will see to it that all our enforcement are aware of that as well."

Ominous indeed. Organizations do pivot in strange ways sometimes. A tech recruiter in Chattanooga I was working with years ago suddenly switched their focus to space exploration (waypaverfoundation.org). And more recently, Allbirds announced they were abandoning wool shoes and becoming an AI shop.
