I scarcely know how to describe that room. It became, in a way, every room I had ever been in and every room I find myself in hereafter will remind me of Giovanni’s room.

Quote-posting twice because it's that important. The three most important resources that I give comics students are linked in this thread. 1. Mad's breakdown of COMIC PANEL VARIATION (@madrupert.bsky.social) 2. How to start stories by Darin Strauss 3. I need you to understand character motivation

Debuting a new comic at SPX! A Rose Without Thorns is a gay girl regency drama that has been marinating in my head for a long time. This first installment (of many, hopefully!) is about 40 pages, available at SPX next week 💘🥀

A Rose Without Thorns Cover, surrounded by thorns and roses, a woman sits at a window facing the audience. Behind her, two figures stand looking back towards her.

England, 1811. An outcast noblewoman returns to court for the first time in over a year. Eager to rebuild her reputation and rekindle a lost love, she must first contend with a certain disruptive newcomer who might not be all he claims himself to be.

Runners 🌟 A composition I did for @chuwenjie.bsky.social’s Color and Light class back in 2022. I wanted to use compositional elements I hadn’t tried before, like contrasting a single figure vs a group, and golden hour lighting.

A colorful painting of a marathon run turning a corner. The focus point is a lone runner pulling away from the crowd framed by the golden light pouring into a street behind him as the rest of the crowd follows in a mob. The runners are all washed in golden hour lighting while the street they are turning into is in purple shadow. Crowds and banners line the streets and a police on a motorbike drives in front of the marathon runners, blurred in the foreground.

My @chuwenjie.bsky.social class homework from Spring 2022. This class really solidified how I think about color and light, a life changing class for me personally !

A colorful painting of a desk area with two desks pushed together against a wall with two windows, a standing desk against the left corner wall, two chairs, a couch with an ottoman to the left, and a plant on the right. There are an assortment of laptops with drawing tablets, books, stuffed animals, and miscellaneous objects arranged on the desks and couch, and the wall in front of the desk is decorated with colorful prints stylized as blocks of color. A giant poster of Sasuke hangs over the desk. The painting is ambiently lit by the light from the windows, which is blown out white, and the colors of everything are chromatic and saturated.

The same desk space but with rainy weather light from outside infusing the painting with a shadowy grayish blue except for the desk area which is illuminated by a warm lamp light. The coldness of the rainy weather lighting makes the lamp light feel extra warm.

The same desk space but with a beam of golden hour light coming from a window outside the painting frame, creating a rectangular streak of very warm yellow light across the floor, chairs, desk, and wall. The whole painting is lit by golden hour outside and is warm throughout and dramatic with deep shadows.

The same desk space at night with greenish cold light coming from a computer screen. Otherwise, the painting is dark and blue with barely any light coming from moonlight outside. The green artificial light gives the painting a peaceful look.

A travel poster of Village Hidden in the Leaves from Naruto that I drew for a travel poster anthology back in 2021. I wanted to draw something that felt nostalgic of early Naruto with classic team 7 🌸🍥🔥📕

A colored travel poster illustration that says “Welcome to Konohagakure” in Japanese (木ノ葉隠れの里へようこそ) along the top right corner with a picture of a giant pink Sakura tree blooming over a rooftop scene of Konohagakure. Young Team 7 stands on a roof in the shadow of the tree. Kakashi is laying on the roof reading a book while the kids all look out into the distance where you can see the hokage office and the hokage faces on the mountain. The scene is warmly lit by spring sunlight, giving the scene a nostalgic and optimistic feeling.

teacher’s office 🍎📚 from a my hero academia x Naruto crossover zine a few years ago!

a colored illustration of a teacher’s office with teachers from both my hero academia and Naruto: Eraserhead, All Might, Present Mic, Lady Midnight, and Vlad King from MHA, and Kakashi, Iruka, Gai, Kurenai, and Azuma from Naruto. The teachers are sitting at their desks relaxing or working during a break where students are walking the halls outside. Kakashi is reading a book and you can see his Icha Icha books and graded papers in and around his desk. Iruka sits next to him with his laptop open to his wallpaper which is a photo of him and Naruto as a child. Gai is sitting back to back with Kakashi from the desk behind him. Eraserhead is laying on his desk looking tired while All Might sits next to him looking concerned and Present Mic is cheerfully talking to him. Lady Midnight and Vlad King are sipping coffee and Azuma and Kurenai are chatting in the back by the blackboard. Bakugo and Ochako are bringing books into the office, Bakugo very begrudgingly, while Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke walk by outside. Naruto waves to Iruka and Kakashi from the doorway.

Of Thunder and Lighting by @kmbrlei.bsky.social 💥 android girls fighting 🥊‼️♥️

A black and white illustration of Magni and Dino from Of Thunder and Lightning. The two are locked in battle with Dino throwing a hard, black punch and Magni leaping back braced for impact with her arms crossed over her face. The two are making eye contact right before the moment of impact.

A close up of the illustration focused on Magni and Dimo’s faces as they gaze at each other right before Dimo’s punch lands.

first time using ink at live figure drawing last year

An ink painting of a person with long hair and a fringe from a 3/4 angle with their hand in front of them. The shadow on their face is dark and covers most of the face, obscuring their eyes. They have a bit of a mysterious smile.

The CLUMP Foundation™ Newsletter 2024 is here! Thank you so much for checking out my comic and supporting survival and liberation in Palestine, Sudan, and the Congo ♥️ (I haven’t even posted about my comic here yet but…well I have one!)

Thanks to all who picked up and read CLUMP during the fair & for taking interest in such a self-indulgent story. Your support and kind comments made the work rewarding and the donations possible!

CLUMP is a comic I wrote together with my friend Chloe when I got accepted into SBCF, then designed and drew throughout 2024. We both work non-creative corporate office jobs (CLUMP is real…) which sustain us enough to spend our free time doing what we love, which is making art about corporate office jobs ♥ we decided right away that the profit from our work should be donated to causes we care about. For helping us raise so much, we’re really grateful.

Thanks for following along for my first comic!

Yowamushi Pedal 🚲 I love Hakogaku, Kureminami, and the University teams! … lol

A drawing of yowamushi pedal characters as chiikawa characters - Arakita as Hachiware, Fukutomi as Chiikawa, Shinkai as Usagi, and Toudou as Momonga

A sketch page of Yowamushi Pedal characters - head shots of Fukutomi and Shinkai from Meiso University, Toudou from Tsukushiba University, Kinjou in a lab coat giving a thumbs up with caption “SCIENCE IS COOL!”, Machimiya in his high school days on his bike, Kinjou in his school uniform, Arakita from his first year at Hakogaku, and Machimiya angrily grabbing Arakita with Bepsi spilled all over him from Arakita’s open bottle.

A sketch sheet of Arakita and Kinjou at Yonan University in their bike uniforms and a redrawing of a panel of Arakita eating noodles.

A sketch sheet of the Shinkai brothers in their Hakogaku bike uniforms both eating their protein bars, and the older brother Hayato holding up his younger brother Yuto under the arm pits while Yuto looks annoyed.

Haru’s Curse by Asuka Konishi I like this short manga a lot somehow so I keep making drawings about it periodically

A drawing of Natsumi and Togo from Haru’s Curse in black funeral clothes standing side by side with their hands loosely clasped in front of them. Natsumi looks at the viewer with a serious expression while Togo looks at Natsumi.

A grayscale illustration of haru and natsumi sharing an umbrella in a sun shower captured in the reflection of a puddle on the ground. A fallen flower floats on the surface of the puddle. The tone is light and sadly nostalgic and dreamlike, with the good memory captured only in a reflection and the dark clouds also visible in the puddle.

A grayscale illustration of Haru inside a house, seen through the window sitting with an IV drip visible by her side. Haru and Togo are leaning against the side of the house outside taking cover from pouring rain under the roof overhang. The mood of the piece is dark and heavy with the weight of the house and rain suggesting the weight of Haru’s illness hanging over them.

Front facing bust drawings of Shiori and Kuroi from Shiori Expeirence. Shiori is smiling and Kuroi is serious.

Drawing of Shiori and Kuroo standing back to back playing their guitar and bass.

Drawing of Shiori and Kuroo almost kissing and shocked and embarrassed about being so close.

Drawing of Shiori leaping into Kuroi’s arms and hugging tightly. Both faces are mostly obscured but you can see Kuroi blushing and just the corner of a smile on Shiori’s face.
