One thing that shouldn’t be lost among all the decisions by Cashman & Boone is their failure to define a clear role for Ben Rice. He’s only 27 but they’re shoe-horning him into a DH; 96 games this yr vs 56 at 1b. They still have Stanton, & Judge is going to need more & more time at DH every yr.

3 more runs is hardly an edge. The Yankees slugged their way w/54 more HRs. Dig deeper, they had the same number of total bases, & the Yanks whiffed 340 more times. That offensive profile never translates to the playoffs.

It’s not 1840. The ground rule for this is stupid. At a minimum, rule it a foul ball. There were like 5 possible outcomes: foul out of play, HR, off the wall, dropped or caught. Just assuming it’s the latter is terrible. Randy’s pitch was ruled a ‘no pitch’ btw.

I’ve had time to sleep on it. Yup, still hate Austin Wells. No guarantee it changes the outcome but if he stays at 2nd, Stanton pinch hits, Rays go to Baker. Worst case, Yanks get one more HR hitter up in 9th. Maybe Baker has a shaky 9th after sitting. Who knows. And we’ll never know.
