Born in Poland and later based in Paris, Hayden (1883-1970) was a painter associated with the School of Paris, known for his distinctive still life and landscapes that blended Cubist influences with a more poetic, personal style.

While the coconut might be the focal point of David Shrigley's Try to be Happy (1996), it's hard not to question the deeper meaning behind this work. Is it a reminder, a joke, a challenge, or perhaps all three at once? Like much of Shrigley's work, the image invites multiple interpretations.
