short haired pink black and brown kitty lying on a blue blanket, squeezed between two legs, with all four of her little paws up in the air. her front paws are pawing the air, and you can see the toe beans on her back paws - mostly black with pink spots on one foot, and mostly pink on the other foot.

Pinned comment reading "I'll admit this was a challenging video to listen to, in no small part because there was an initial fear that like, 'am I gonna discover that like I actually severely disagree with this creator on something really important to me," but no, I should have had faith. (The level of alignment that I am guilty of expecting from people I engage with and that the left seems broadly guilty of is it's own matter.) But this was still a hard video because you were really challenging me with a lot of the beliefs and behaviors that are soothing my Al anxiety. There's an outcome want, and it's never pleasant to hear that that's not realistic. appreciated your perspective on where we could actually be going forward."

a picture of Whitney Chewston, from the "homophobic dog" meme. she is a white dog, sits next to a glass of wine, and looks somewhat accusingly at the viewer.

i missed an event like this!! i was so sad. i heard there were a lot of bean bags. like a lot a lot.

poster for dream pool, an event at kremwerk on 06-08-2024, featuring gojii, zando, frrn, daog, songdog, boxdoom and rocketmermaid. the description lists we know energy is high, you deserve a moment of intermission. To re-center yourself. Taking pause is good for health, with every shining day no matter the weather. There is an always equal night.

i thought this was just people imitating unicode start end quotes badly. i got accidentally curious. i found early X rendered ` and ' as mutually symmetric? www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/ucs/q...

Unfortunately, the X Window System fonts contained for a long time the following mutually symmetric glyphs:

table with 0x27, APOSTROPHE, being a left tilted apostrophe and 0x60, GRAVE ACCENT, being it's exact mirror.

These shapes were even sanctioned by an early US version of the ISO 646 standard (ANSI X3.4, also known as ASCII), which defined 0x27 as “apostrophe (closing single quotation mark; acute accent)”, but they should already have been changed when the fonts were extended to cover ISO 8859-1, which added a separate acute accent at 0xB4. One obviously cannot have both (text ends abruptly).

this is cursed. the correct response to "adduser" is "command not found" or i guess a symlink, like Fedora does:

screenshot of a terminal command showing adduser, at /usr/sbin/adduser, symlinked to useradd

How much of this is lack of knowledge and how much is enshrined process antithetical to modern tech development? Thinking about this quote from Patrick McKenzie @ www.complexsystemspodcast.com/episodes/tec...

In government-land, 90% of the budget and effort is, this is not something that a project manager has individual scope or authority to change. It's been budgeted; the RFP had a number in it; we gave a milestone payment, so 90% of the total budget of this has to be done before launch. Then you have 10% for bug fixes, maintenance, and operational issues - and operating software, man.

the same bowls, sitting under a plastic sheet

four bowls, now significantly thinner, drying in the open
