If there is one thing we can all agree on, it's that 5 year olds can take the train downtown but not 7 year olds. If there is another thing, it's that combining the effects of urban design, social development, parenting style, and personal choice to make grand statements is cool and awesome.

I don't see an argument that applies to LLMs but doesn't also apply to any number of other algorithms we've used for decades. Maybe they think too, but if that's the case then "thinking" isn't a particularly useful description. I don't believe complexity inherently leads to consciousness.
