You've heard of "shoot your monks". Similarly, clump up weaker enemies for primal casters who just got access to rank 3 spells. 😁 #pf2e BTW love the folklore monsters in Season of Ghosts. A woman in a frog with a cage on her back is refreshingly weird & creepy. app.demiplane.com/nexus/pathfi...

If she were playing #pf2e , Mind Bondage would probably be Incapacitation. She'd be grounded for a year, only let out for Sunday School. 😰 Protip: play the #ttrpg you prefer, but keep the old-school D&D spell list handy in case you have to ensorcel your dad. (Thoughts on Incapacitation follow...)

Season of Ghosts for #pf2e is generally well-regarded as a #ttrpg adventure. As a player I see why. The early story draws you in. Next come the twists and revelations. Also, it's refreshing be in a setting well-inspired by Asian fantasy and culture. The Foundry implementation of this AP is solid.

Just had a great session of #pf2e playing Triumph of the Tusk. It was a demonstration of how attrition can work well in PF2e, despite it not being a mandatory thing for this #ttrpg. Our party helped storm an enemy orcish fortress, and over the course of several battles, our resources ran dry...

Lots of talk lately about if it's good or bad to have random-chance failures in #ttrpgs. I am open to new and novel mechanics and systems. So I am not opposed to ideas on this. But there's something I find odd... (Pictured: a Hero Point turning around a bad roll in a #pf2e game I had today.)

Ended the weekend with a good session of Season of Ghosts in #pf2e . The party battled a storm-witch-style baddie as we hauled ourselves across a lake on a wooden ferry raft. Highlight: our own witch Stupefying the enemy so she couldn't Lightning Bolt us en route. Lowlight: she could fly. 😅

I just saw this take on a post and I can't walk by: "you meanwhile need a lot of experience to even start designing a pf2e enemy due to just how precise you have to be about balance" I feel this is exactly backwards. #PF2e 's tight math makes creature design safe and easy. Let me explain... (1/5)

Branding! The 3-18 scale is core to the game's identity. Because you're right: you could just use modifiers. (Speaking more about modern versions of D&D here. And there's some tiny edge-cases.) #pf2e did exactly this, using modifiers only (post-remaster). Ability scores are becoming vestigial!

My take on this: 1️⃣Most medieval fantasies are a hodgepodge of anachronisms. We all know that. 2️⃣It can be cool for a setting to think about this stuff, get it right, and make it part of the story. 3️⃣Authors don't need to "justify" anything. Very little in fantasy needs to be "fucking baseline".

#D&D 5e is like religion. Wait, shit. I need to rephrase that!😅 D&D 5e is like religion in ONE SPECIFIC WAY. Follow a religion after looking at alternatives and figuring out what's right for you? Fair.🙂 Follow a religion MERELY because it's what you were born into? Not so great. 🫤 (1/2)

In #pf2e today, the heroes led an army of allied drow, kobolds, and xul'gath against enemy tatzlwyrms and elementals on a Darklands battlefield. Cooked up basic homebrew "warfare" rules. Basically, 25-feet squares, tokens represent platoon-sized units. A few tweaks to standard combat rules. (1/4)

I like discussion and debate, but this #PF2e recent talk was a bit mucky! I don't like it, because I can imagine Hasbro looking in, watching the already-too-small non-D&D community tear itself apart. As a PF2e fan, I'll join hands with any TTRPG player to raise awareness of D&D alternatives! 🤝

I know no-one asked, but IMHO all these #ttrpg luke-warm takes are simultaneously true: 1️⃣ D&D 5e is a decent enough system. 2️⃣ D&D 5e suits certain players/groups really well. 3️⃣ Many players/groups playing D&D would be better suited using a different TTRPG system. (1/4)

PF2e GM? Consider buying a Harrow Deck. 1️⃣ In-game readings are fun, and a seed for role-play. 2️⃣ Support Paizo; help mitigate the Diamond Comics disaster. 3️⃣ It's just a really cool physical prop to have. Just adding my 2c. Paizo, if you're hurting, please do a donation drive or sale. I've benefited a lot from your "free rules" stance, and would happily repay that goodwill with cash in your time of need. I reckon lots of others would do the same. This AoN move doesn't help. #pathfinder2e #pf2e

#Pathfinder2E GMs out there... Do you let Telekinetic Hand just lift items, as per the spell description? Do you let it do a little more, for flavour, or to "buff" a less-popular cantrip? Basic stuff like opening an unlocked chest, pulling on a trip wire, or knocking on a door? Curious to hear.

I was digging in an archived #pathfinder2e Outlaws of Alkenstar game and found some homebrew feats designed to boost the Inventor. I gave these as Bonus Feats. I think that's fair. "Perilous Engineer" is a common suggestion; not wholly my idea. For full-text versions: rpg.deck16.net/pf2e/homebrew

There are some very creative folk on #WoW private servers. I was taken aback by this player-overhauled Silvermoon promenade. One wonders why Blizzard can't do what amateurs can? Especially given the amateurs work with community-made tools. @worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com would rather sue, I suppose.

#TTRPG pedantic pet peeve... Does anyone find it off-putting when fantasy bird-humanoids have wings as extra limbs on their backs? That just feels wrong to me. They should be on their arms. ✅ Old D&D Aarakocra ❌ New D&D Aarakocra ✅ WoW Aarakoa Not that either makes much sense evolutionary. 🤷‍♂️

In Sep. 2020 The Film Reroll Podcast performed an interesting experiment in TTRPGs by playing a Memento-like story. Each time the lone PC had a bout of short-term memory loss, a new player would take over, with zero knowledge of what was going on. Severance is begging for such treatment.

Someone asked on Reddit why people like prepared casters in Pathfinder 2e. For me, it turns every daily preparation into that scene in a movie where the hero is presented with a cabinet- or room-full of weapons. Choices, choices. What's needed for today's task? Hmm... one of these, two of these...

I see a lot of #gamedev posts that are depressing and defeatist. 😟 Back in 2012 I made a simple little game called Impulse. It didn't make me as rich as Mojang or land me a job at Valve. But it was satisfying to make, and nice to see people play it. Hope it can be an inspiration. Links in replies.

Got home from work. Sat down at my desk. Turned the air conditioner on. It proceeded to rattle ominously. A few seconds later, something fell out of it. A dead lizard of some sort? Only... when I went to scoop it up, it wasn't dead at all! Don't worry: trapped it, released outside. Seemed healthy.

It's amazing how well Morrowind (Elder Scrolls 3) graphics hold up. These are shots from OpenMW, with increased resolution and draw distance only. No new assets. Like most games of the era, Morrowind didn't animate the flora. It's a bit jarring to see stock-stationary trees, impervious to wind.
