i love how easy it is to swap things in/out on the Dreamcast. it’s probably my favorite console to repair since it’s just so straightforward

something i’ve been thinking about recently is how we tend to implicitly use video quality to gauge how old something is but as of last 15 years the video quality has been good enough that i’ll see something, think it’s recent, but no, it’s from 2011 or so 😥

this game had a lot of hidden levels and characters iirc too. nowadays it’d be all DLC :’(

yeah i agree with that being problematic not to mention the rapid number of commits in succession on Oct 1st. i glanced over a couple, they looked fine to me but still slow down. plus there’s things like it using 1e-20f as length checking that it does so without any explanation why that value

this is more common than people realize, where an app is super popular, they try it, it doesn’t click with them, and they then assume it’s them; but nah. turns out the mainstream user interface is not always the best thing for everyone. so one should keep looking or if able to, create your own

hrydgard has been coding the PPSSPP emu for ages, they know their stuff. IMO if they review the commits it’s fine. this zero AI policy won’t scale TBH as security fixes are now being found by AI. i’m more concerned by people doing throwaway minecraft clones than someone updating an emu the masses use

this gives me a horror effect idea. when we were kids we’d look at things in the dark and see monsters/creatures due to imagination. the fog in this game kind of has that effect as it’s fading in/out/wavering. it’d be cool to purposely time the fog so as it blends with objects it makes faces appear

imagine this in multiplayer with friendly fire on. lol, people would have to resort to melee to play it safe

crows evolved to remember human faces so i wouldn’t be surprised if Orca evolved to realize humans aren’t worth the risk because often if we fall over we have gear on, sometimes sharp knives, untasty clothes, metal jewelry. not to mention we’ve pushed stranded Orca back into water for eons

BlueSky tip: a lot of people i follow repost others (great!) but because i already follow those others, i tend to see multiple same posts in my Following feed. if you click the Hash top right, you can add the OnlyPosts feed. this is a Following feed without reposts

disagree. { } is repetitive and unnecessary when one’s going to indent anyways. also, regardless, let’s be real, with the way LLMs use in coding is going doubt the intermediate language is going to matter much going forward

my condolences! a couple years ago i spent like an entire day backing up every 3DS physical game i own, even opening up the brand new games i had to get to the cart. but yeah we shouldn’t have to do this, and shame that it has come to this

also early on strategy guide writers would have to take a screenshot, move, take a screenshot, then overlay the pictures to make a map which is just so much work. so glad devs started assisting with providing map pictures in certain cases

when GTA 6 was announced as being digital only, this was my first thought as well. it could get worse beyond music. imagine they start removing licensed cars after a year because they didn’t want to keep paying fees. reviews written at release would have to be adjusted

i have not done anything with my OS as of late besides going from 640x480 resolution to 960x544, which is a common widescreen resolution (Vita uses it). the taskbar in the UI is on the right so that extra widescreen width helps

i remember when they ported some of the old games to PS2 they converted the pixel art backgrounds to 3D. but then due to fan outcry they went back to the pixel art backgrounds for the later ports. but in retrospect the 3D backgrounds were nice as well and modern ports should allow switching IMO

how well does concrete meld to already dried concrete? would it be better if the interface was rougher, more attach points?

it’s generally for “art” image gen, it’s the biggest backstab putting artists out of work while profiting off them as training data. for code, devs have been sharing code snippets with each other for ages. issue is people using it w/o knowing what they’re doing and bogging down projects with bad PRs

overall AI IS problematic due to energy use. so if you really don’t have to use it, then please do avoid it

i’m okay with real life image gen unless it’s obscene/propaganda/deception/privacy invading or contains copyrighted artwork in itself. the datasets for these can be easily gotten from just taking a camera and walking through nature whereas “art” gen models are built on stolen content made by artists

DRM @d-r-m.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
by writing gen i mean people will write a list of bullet points, AI will write up a wasteful article or email, and then person on other end will likely use AI to summarize it back into the bullet points. just send the bullet points. super wasteful to involve AI into it
110
DRM @d-r-m.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
my stance on AI: image gen? if it’s attempting “art”, against. if it’s attempting image restoration, background fill, okay with. audio gen? for assisting ppl with disabilities, okay with. for music gen, against. code gen? okay with only if person understands the code themselves. writing gen? against

this makes me want to write a post on my stance on AI. but there’s plenty of free assets on the web with no strings attached that’d look better as well. you can even apply a filter to stylize them

i always learned to implement both. send critical signals on TCP, lossable data on UDP. like player positions. send a counter with each UDP packet, discard the smallest one on the receiving end. if one packet is lost or out of order, so be it, next will contain more recent player positions

so placement matters a lot too. you can spot a connection that avoids setting up the opponent’s triangle. also if you get a high roll you can sabotage the opponent after by placing a long line through the field to reduce the amount of connections that can be made after

if CD drives use 2 electric motors anyways, i wonder why our universe didn’t go with 2D rectangular media readers. no need to spin the disc at high speeds. more data. no need to compensate for different angular velocities. easy x, y addressing

i’ll have you know, i’ve been writing my own 3D engine for a 1000 years. “when will you make a game with it?” that’s the fun part of 3D engine deving, you don’t. one just keeps eternally adding engine features. j/k but TBH i mostly just know like basic fixed pipeline graphics stuff, no shaders yet

i often find that todo lists that’re like “implement map type A, then B, C” look neat ordered in the todo list but lead to burn out. best to mix it up. i stopping working on my VM project for months cause sound programming was burning me out. only picked it up again after switching focus to the GUI

what do you mean? digilent.com/reference/pr... if you mean what game console it is, none. just a blank FPGA. though it has the design logic capability ~3x that of MiSTer’s DE10-nano FPGA, but i’m not interested in gaming on it, planning to do custom design stuff instead

a cool feature to have in 3D engines would be a texture density mode. if an artist assigns a 16x16 texture to a 6 foot wall, the texture density view would show it as red. same for a 256x256 texture assigned to a 1 inch object

what’s going on with the Sailor Moon license. it started out strong in early 90s with amazing pixel art beat em ups but then modern times it’s like “here’s this Sailor Moon themed puzzle game.” i feel like it deserves a proper modern fighting game or even RPG
