Drivers routinely crash into each other and fall off the road when there’s snow. Cycling and driving both require a little more skill in the winter months. Winter cycling isn’t for everyone, but it’s certainly possible.

The trouble is, you’re so hamstrung by the constitution that change is practically impossible. But you allow one person to just ignore all the “checks and balances” as well as the constitution itself. Is there a peaceful way to sort it out? I have my doubts.

It seems utterly incomprehensible that you have a judiciary appointed by politicians and electoral districts decided by political parties. That a president can grant pardons to anyone, let alone himself is unthinkable in any modern society.

From outside I’m afraid it seems the US is mired in the 17th century. You have an electoral system designed to prevent exactly what it now enables and no ability to change it. A system that allows an ‘electoral college’ to override a majority vote.

I think you’re being overly generous, the USs best interests are not a factor in the tangerine tw*ts thoughts, only his personal interests.

A war on walking. A war on biking. A war on public transit. A war on better cities. But a war on cars? Hardly. The #UrbanTruth is that #CarDependency is still the norm in far too many cities, and the #RoadLobby will do everything they can to keep it going. Don’t buy the lie. #WarOnWalking
Picture of a luxury car parked mostly on the sidewalk with an elderly couple with mobility aids forced to walk around the car on the street into traffic. The text says “Don’t buy the lie that there’s a war on cars. They’ve been waging a war on walking for a century.” Via the Urban Truth Collective.

It’s hard enough for cities in Canada to do smarter things given how often bad city leaders hurt their own cities. But it’s extra infuriating watching awful provincial premiers sabotaging cities by ripping out good things they FINALLY managed to achieve. Premiers should not have that power, period.

This is one of the most profoundly ignorant actions by an uneducated premier who cannot, or will not, understand the evidence of his own bloody department.

Cycling like the Dutch would slash the world’s carbon footprint
If everybody cycled like the Dutch, we could offset the UK or Australia’s entire carbon footprint.

We’re in an era where the fight against fascism and authoritarianism is on almost every ballot. Voting has always been important, but never more than now. Vote like your rights, your future, your vote itself, and even your life, are all on the line. Because there’s a very good chance they are.

For longer journeys we should strive to make travel between urban centres equally simple, so that the only logical way to travel between say Toronto and Montreal, or TO and London is the train.

Within urban areas we should strive to make public transportation so efficient and so affordable that no one who lives and works in that community would want to waste money on car ownership.

There are a few responses here following the “all or nothing” scenario and it always baffles me that we cannot seem to get past “some people need a vehicle for work”, “what about the disabled” or “I live in a rural area”. Public and active transportation IMPROVES their journeys! Low hanging fruit!

Posts like this about biking in Dutch cities are routinely replied to with comments like “well, they have the big advantage of being relatively flat.” The Dutch also have the big advantage of not constantly making excuses about why they can’t make clearly smarter city-making decisions. #Leadership

I’m sorry, but that is exactly what they voted for. Maybe not spelled out word for word, but they’d seen his first go, they knew this would be worse and they voted for it. Or they didn’t vote which is tantamount to a vote for it. 90 bloody million did not vote - let that sink in.

If a 12 year old did this you’d be worried, it’s so puerile. How anyone could vote for this is beyond me. Once was incomprehensible, twice is beyond the pale. And even so today I saw an interview with an American woman who thinks “he’s really smart” and “a good businessman”.

How many more studies does your city need proving that people on bikes and on foot spend more on shopping streets than people in cars? Bike-lanes mean business. In general, and specifically more than on-street parking or another lane for cars. #UrbanTruth

This iconic Fabian Todorovic cartoon is still one of the best I’ve seen at illustrating the remarkable amount of space we surrender to cars, leaving little space left for everyone and everything else. The text added later makes the bonus point that many drivers still manage to complain about it.
Cartoon image of a street with much of the space taken up by a car with a single driver, while the rest of the street has people tightly packed in a bus, a bus shelter and riding bikes in a bike lane. Adding insult to injury, the driver says “damn those bike paths and bike lanes taking all the space.”
