Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 6hGotta get my predictive text trained up for a quick dr. El-Sayed swipe But back on topic: oh my God the histrionics over Islam this season. MFs are beating bibles and calling themselves Christian warriors, telling me to fear jihad?! 2391
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 6hSuper tangential but I'm having some doubts about AES as an acronym. Like, we've already got AOC cuz her name is long. But I like typing out El-Sayed or Dr El-Sayed Idk. Way off topic I know but damn I love that guy 2681
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 6hNot sure about shill but it was available in Teslas. Charming little game. Not exactly a lifetime to master 000
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 6hIf converting to Sharia is what pushes me to a PhD and benching three hundo then allahu akbar 2321
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 7hYou aren't tying your laces though. You're simply predicting the next motion through a loop based on your training data 0131
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 7hThe US fleet of class 8s is set to at least double electrek.co/2026/09/22/t...electrek.coTesla Semi wins 2,500-truck order, doubling US electric Class 8 fleetTesla is the primary OEM for ZET SCALE, a shipper alliance backed by Microsoft and PepsiCo ordering 2,500 electric trucks, the largest US order yet. 000
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 8hDid you get blocked for this? I'm still learning how to interpret the bsky interface. 000
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 9hIn my little research blitz I found a source saying 60% of PLA is driver from corn lol. I knew we did lots of stuff with corn but that one got me 110
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 9hI am learning the literature, that's the point of lit review. If you can teach me a better method than natural language targeting of relevant and citable works then please do. Genuinely. I don't know of a better way to find it 000
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 11hYou truly believe your time is better spent navigating disparate search methodologies? Across the 3 universities I've attended, their libraries have been far inferior to an natural language search. Not to mention journals Heck, 1 of them is trying to incorporate an LLM assist to improve results lol 100
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 11hLeft path: I spend 4 hours trying to find search terms that pull relevant papers out of 12 different journals and libraries Right path: prompt Claude and spend the remaining 3:59 actually reading 310
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 12hIt's more that our animals are very likely to have been fed corn. Many of our snacks involve corn or corn oil. Corn starch in myriad goods. Pumping gas? Corn. Charcoal? Corn. Cardboard? Corn. That PLA in your printer? Corn. It's corn all the way down, baby. 110
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 13hHad Claude whip up a website for a buddy's painting company. Looks excellent, used like 3% of my weekly pro usage limit. Guided me from GitHub to cloudflare and finished with SEO stuff Changes require only a Claude prompt for him. I imagine even a local Qwent could do it just as well 180
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 13hI read one pitch of an LLM tool that would interact with kids and provide reports on which students needed more one on one time. The company seemed oblivious to reading and writing skills I would definitely prefer just paying more in taxes to have a better student to teacher ratio lol 010
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 14hWhy would it skip a generation? Be interesting if that were the case 000
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 14hTax and law changes have fucked up their plans in major ways in recent years. Culturally we're not too keen on EVs, and (usually) cheap fuel makes the $ factor less relevant than Europe or China Our market is pathetically behind too. Compared to Geely and BYD, Ford is a dinosaur. 010
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 14hAgreed entirely! It's assistive and output requires verification. I can certainly imagine a model weighted to guide undergrads into focusing on their knowledge gaps. But that's not what we have right now (as far as I know) and it's an entirely different concept for elementary kids. 110
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 14hOh for sure. That "great equalizer" stuff is dangerous too. I'm a big fan of AI for various reasons, but not for a moment do I think we should be integrating in k-12. The pandemic showed us what happens when we cut human interactions from education Maybe not a great comparison... 010
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 14hGenuine questions as I'm curious about what you've seen: are you an educator, and what tools have been pushed? I have a public school teacher friend I like to speak with on this stuff. Recently, she's concerned with teachers offloading class activities to gen AI. Tired of hearing "ask chat GPT" 110
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 15hUsing garbage research doesn't help though. It undermines your claims when we evaluate the evidence. I'm not sure if anyone in proximity to education was not already aware that AI and LLMs are screwing things up 210
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 15hFuckin right? Claude running a protection racket on our cell phones lol 010
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 15h"not language I would use" Oh ok so which words would you choose to inspire hate crimes? 020
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 15hDefinitely the spam is crazy. I turned on AI call screening just to intercept all the AI spam calls 110
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 15hI'm trying to put a paper together on our big ass EVs, too. So far it's a mix of bad tax incentives, trends from CAFE like you mentioned, people valuing personal safety, finite battery supply. And now we have protectionist policy against Chinese EVs Nothing worth sharing just yet 110
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 16hYeah I'm with you generally. Disinformation was bad enough when it was text based. I don't like the fake cutesy stuff either. But I'm trying to figure why I dislike it more than something like a cute CGI movie/TV character 110
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 16hThat's $90 a year for me. Inconsequential given the hilarious difficulties of step 3 Nationwide and state farm are mutuals and have extremely similar financing 220
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 16hWell no but that's because I don't trust them to use social media responsibly 110
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 18hStep 1: nationalize Progressive Step 2: eliminate all executives and stock dividends Step 3: somehow change nothing about claims and expenses Step 4: pass on the savings to policy holders Congratulations! You've reduced premiums by 5% 120
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 18hAnd none of what I just listed falls on the shoulders of the DNC. At best, there's a stick to shake at a few typically Dem states for not signing the NPVIC en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationa...en.wikipedia.orgNational Popular Vote Interstate Compact - Wikipedia 100
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 18hOh yeah I think average daily commute is something like 20 miles a day now? Maybe it was 25 And the lifestyle expectations are SO much higher now. Laughable as it is for economic frustration to come from the "I can't afford the F-950 FuckDozer" guy, he still shows up in the data 110
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 18hNot when the average voters are this fuckin stupid and the majority party is happily skipping down Tyranny Road The electoral college could've chosen Kamala. His party could refuse almost all of his demands or at least keep power of the purse in Congress. His cabinet could remove him by EOD 100
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 18h*we've been eating shit in recent years on cheap car options though 010
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 18hI'm gonna take a guess on elaborating here. Where 1920s housing allowed for stuffing 4 kids into a bedroom, this is now virtually unacceptable Transpo though is messier. Cars trend is cheaper, reliablier, and vastly safer now compared to... Well every other generation* 210
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 19hThe failure most often seems to be that someone heard about a bad tool and fixed their position to it. It would be laughable to saddle students with GPT-1. Whereas Claude Sonnet has (so far) generated flawless calc tutorials for me. 24/7 availability. incapable of impatience or frustration 000
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 19hThey never had the 60 Senate votes necessary to expand the court, which would've meant ending the filibuster, which was a non-starter. As it should be. 100
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 19hStopped what? Preemptively shut down ICE? Strip the executive of its power? Stacking the court introduces a new Senate precedent that the GOP would've repeated. What could Garland & Smith have done differently? A trump appointee stalled the indictments until voters showed how dumb they are again 100
Derek @d-coo.bsky.social · 19hMost of what you've listed reflects nothing actionable. There are numerous examples of lawsuits by Dems that have succeeded, and counter moves that fail entirely because they lack federal majorities State Dems have had some success, but the federal govt power is broad and deep 200
