Item 3: PAEA will authorize purchases from FASCOM advisor Elon Musk using sole-source no-bid contracts so Musk can build his autonomous robot army, get paid enormously for it using our taxes, and field it under Command of the Executive.

This is a better epilogue to my January story about the private equity firm profiting off of ICE's cruelest flights than I could have ever possibly hoped for. CHICAGO: You went to the mat and protected (at a minimum!) thousands of immigrants from torture. Take a bow. prospect.org/2026/10/02/i...

1/4 for progressive left, and 2/3 for Dems. How’d that work out in 2024? If tech workers were so angry about things, they’d shut down their employers/founders that dined with Trump yesterday. But their equity is too attractive, so they donate and find other ways to resist. But SC culture is broken.

We can debate the amount of work comped with equity in SV. If it’s tech work in SV, big parts of it are the startup or mature startup sector (the non-Cisco/HP parts). Equity is a real factor for much 21st century SV employment. Of course many tech jobs in SV don’t come with equity as part of comp.

You’re in a time machine with this take. Marc Andreesen remarked how Me Too (during Trump first term) and DEI programs made SV soft, and tech workers had too much power over founders. In Trump second term, DEI is attacked and SV leaders like Marc and Thiel join in. Tech workers aren’t fighting back.

My point is that tech equity is a long term effort to get results. That has impact on risk level tolerance by tech workers to push back on emergent libertarian-behaving tech employers. However liberal tech workers may be, they have no concept of a union to back them up.

David @d-cell.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I’ve made similar mistakes. Took a SV job for equity, it didn’t pan out after PE sold their stake to another PE and my unrealized equity was heavily diluted. All I have to do is think back to SVB and the crazy financial chaos they caused. But they’re also necessary to how SV operates.

Good lord, this hurts to read. I’ve worked for SV companies. Many people working there chase an IPO or equity payout in some fashion. Most payouts aren’t quick, they happen over many years. SV lost its Berkeley/Haight-Ashbury juice over decades. It’s more libertarian now, at the top.

David @d-cell.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Turns out many tech people have empathy and choose politics that support community. BUT it’s also true that those same tech workers chase IPO or other equity payout. There have been many employee protests against tech companies, that rarely work to change policies. It’s hard to serve two masters.

David @d-cell.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Shocker - most of those employees that donated to Mamdani live in NYC and have actual empathy for their fellow New Yorkers. There’s nuance in where tech staff live and choose political alliances. In SV, empathy has been eroded over decades. NYC isn’t SV. Tech leaders/staff in SV are different.

Yesterday, a major investment bank held interviews with 26 AI startups in the valley. None of those AU Startups can function without offering equity to founders, employees, and investment partners. Where I work, a half-dozen former employees left to join Cursor before it got snapped up by SPCX.

So much conflation in this statement. Sort out your concerns and targets first. AI is driven from Silicon Valley. There’s an implication that tech workers are libertarian, and you state they’re liberal+left. Tech leaders are very libertarian. Tech workers are IPO capitalists, no longer liberal.

Ha ha that’s gross and should make everyone uncomfortable, anyway, Rahm presided over a Chicago police black site, lied about what it was and then I sued the Chicago police for its records that proved it:

Rahm’s brother Ari has media connections, so Rahm emulates Trump by exploiting those connections to get far more press coverage than deserved. The same NYT that published your shared article says Rahm doesn’t even poll in the top 10 of potential candidates lol. NYT has no problem taking grifter $.

Oh c’mon. After your first comment, I replied to you with the same thing you shared - Kav’s opening sentence where he makes my point. Why are you so focused on procedural things? I didn’t reference that. IANAL. I’m a citizen watching the SC tear apart my country. You should care more about that.

David @d-cell.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
I didn’t have “statutory authority” at the ready. Sorry. My point still stands - this regulatory change by USPS will come back, it will be upheld by SC, and it wills severely disrupt vote-by-mail in 2028.

David @d-cell.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
It’s an indicator that Kav is inclined to support it. Therefore, I expect this gets enough SC support if it goes thru the process correctly instead of rushed. It will get re-submitted for 2027. We’ve seen what the SC will do, given enough time to interpret the law in FedSoc’s favor.

David @d-cell.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
I’m reasonably accurate with my paraphrase. It’s Kav’s first sentence! “In my view, based on the briefing the Court has received at this interim stage, there is at least a fair prospect that the final rule falls within the Postal Service's statutory authority. See 39 U.S. C. §401(2).”
110
David @d-cell.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Perhaps. But Kavanaugh wrote he’d support Trump’s rule as being within the USPS’s remit, except it’s being rushed so not for midterm elections. Look for it to be applied in 2028 when Trump takes another crack at it in 2027 and it gets upheld by SC majority.

My thought (upon reading the article and considering your work on this) is that perhaps OBL recruiting fellow Saudi nationals would cause USA to no longer trust Saudi Arabia. Instead, we attacked Afghanistan and turned a blind eye to Saudi’s role in the attack on USA - that still hold true today.
010
David @d-cell.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
That’s a secondary objective to the points in the article skeeted by Jane Coulton. The article suggests OBL wanted USA out of Middle East. On that, OBL caused the opposite. USA never turned its back on an opportunity to wage war. OBL should’ve known he’d trigger our thirst for revenge.
010
David @d-cell.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Elizabeth, your comment here stands out as supportive of Jane Coaston’s skeet: “bin Laden wanted the U.S. out of the Middle East and was particularly enraged by the U.S. / Saudi dynamic.” I’ve always wondered why he had Saudi citizens take over the planes. Was he trying to divide USA from Saudi?
100
David @d-cell.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
OBL got what he wanted… the USA out of the Middle East? OBL caused the opposite! OBL made USA focus more on the Middle East than ever!! Sure, Afghanistan retreat occurred but USA never really left. Economic/military investment shifted, and increased! Adam, I mostly like your takes. Not this one.

David @d-cell.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Fascinating! OBL overlooked that the Exec Branch (Nixon) kept Vietnam War going, ignored domestic protests and even created conditions that caused Kent State shootings in 1970. Only Watergate scandal in 1972 induced a retreat from Vietnam in 1973. OBL’s thesis didn’t consider how USA loves war.

Next Dem President can tear it down without waiting for courts to rule. Just destroy it. After all, SC gave Exec the power to do anything. If SC later says “Stop”, ignore them. Point out that SC created the Unitary Executive so Thomas and Alito can complain all they want about the monster they made.

The Exec is a media-oriented role, ever since Kennedy/Nixon. Good ol’ CBS Chairman (and sex harassment issues) Les Moonves was correct in 2016. Today, Fox drives Trump policy. Biden tried and failed to embrace media. Your second sentence is wishcasting about a prior civics era that’s ended.

Short term thinking. The point of the Senate is to slow down the often overheated and reactionary bills passed out of the House. For example… If the entire Senate were eliminated, the SAVE act becomes law. If it’s left to States choosing senators, then Georgia would have NO Democratic senators.

All politics is local. He’s made a pragmatic choice that aligns to Evers and the electorate in Wisconsin that got him the nomination win in the first place. Until a statewide candidate emerges in Wisconsin that harkens back to Feingold, it’ll be difficult to win there by being more left.
