Kurosawa was so impressed that he gifted Sturges with a katana. Kurosawa took a lot of inspiration from American westerns, and with S.S. and Yojimbo,he, in turn, massively influenced the genre he admired. Seriously, watch the original: It's SO good, and it makes you appreciate the remake even more.

16-year-old me and a friend watched it at the Von Lee in Bloomington. We were soooo high, and it was the best movie ever. Since then, I've seen it maybe a dozen times, and you know what? Still pretty damn good, stoned or not.

Retired librarian here, and well done, says I. Passive aggressive service with civility and a smile. Many's the time I helped a grumpy libertarian fire off an angry letter to the editor on our publicly-funded computers. Poor little dears.

Decades is the best closer on any album by any artist.

Kurosawa thought so highly of the movie that he gifted Sturges with a katana. Oh, and love Denzel, but the 2016 remake was ba-a-a-ad.

You think Sleepy Don is up writing this stuff at 5 a.m.? I've said it before and I'll say it again: there's no fucking way he writes these himself. It's a pool of staffers writing "in the style of." Hell, at this point wouldn't be surprised if they were AI generated.

As usual, I will be playing the SOTU drinking game. It's fun and easy: don't watch the SOTU, drink.

Should he be compelled to perform, he could simply play "Pop Goes the Weasel" over and over for the amount of time stipulated in the contract. This would fulfill his obligation, he'd avoid the threatened lawsuit, the administration would be mightily irritated, and he'd get a paycheck.

“There are two kinds of people in this world, my friend: those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.” We could do this all day…

And all of them from this movie are spoken by Tuco. "If you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?" "Anyone who double-crosses me and leaves me alive, he knows nothing about Tuco." "There are two kinds of spurs, my friend..." etc.

Thee mighty Stooges. My favorite bit of lore is how they arrived in NYC to record the album but were woefully short of material, so they wrote a bunch of songs in the hotel the night before. Listen to "Real Cool Time." It’s totally a written-in-a-hotel-room-the-night-before song.

Leave Home, Young Loud and Snotty, and NMTB are huge for me. The fact that they were released in the same year is proof that I was born at the right time. (Does that mean I'm kind of old now? Sure, but that was going to happen anyway.) And adding those other albums to the mix? 1977 was seismic.

Would I prefer that he live to face the consequences of his actions? Sure. Will I be satisfied if his humiliation is posthumous? Yes. I absolutely will.

Oh GOD I wore this record out when it was released. So goddamn great! (Um, yeah, there's the little matter of a certain word in For the Love of Ivy and Black Train that keeps me from playing it for guests...)

I was 17. That means I'm kinda old now, which was going to happen anyway. But being 17 when that shit was new? Wouldn't trade it for anything.

I think sentencing a man to hard labor at a prison compound for the act of cutting the heads off of parking meters is...unduly harsh.

Swimming in abandoned limestone quarries, we'd swim through the narrow crevices created by the jumbled blocks of stone. We would come up with different routes, trying for ever-more-elaborate combinations. The possibility drowning never occurred to us. We were immortal.

Dude! We saw Bauhaus several years ago (they opened for NIN-yawn), and they were amazing. Outdoor but covered venue, and a thunderstorm rolled in when they started, then rolled back out as soon as they finished!

I’ve been to a lot of shows, but this one topped them all. 1985: bunch of us rode in a van from Bloomington IN (thanks for driving, Ellen). Venue actually ran out of beer! Anyone else go to this one? What was the best show you ever went to?

I posted one (ONE) photo with chickens in it. Now the algorithm has decided I must really like chickens, so my feed is full of them (chicken feed?). This doesn’t explain the thousands of cat pics, but that’s the water in which we swim. Here is a photo of beer and cheese—let’s see what happens now!

"People dressed as nazis." Interesting way to put it,Dispatch. Now, I am a believer in people-first language, but if you are dressed as a nazi and you're not making a movie, then I have to conclude that you’re an actual nazi (and are deserving of the consequences).
