That's why I think email based flows are still vastly superior to current atproto-based stuff, because they have a topology that makes sense to begin with. Ironically, tangled is just a tangled mess of data that's all over the place because the primitive just isn't the right one

Issues, PRs, and comments to my projects should be written to *my* PDS (or a designated service for collaborative data) directly, not aggregated after the fact from an append-only log that's extremely fragile because its scattered across the entire Internet

I saw someone complain about issues and comments from a user nuked from GitHub being deleted, and fwiw data fragility is exactly why I don't like Tangled (in addition to the hilariously bad `op` lexicon) Tangled ironically has a fitting name for a tangled mess of poorly portable data

FWIW, upstream zmij seems to have landed fixed precision formatting as of a few days ago in v1.2... 👀 Once that lands in the Rust port (@dtolnay.bsky.social ❤️) then it should be easy enough to make my patched crate feature complete for use in JS engines

zmij-js is consistently faster (1.3-2x) than ryu-js based on (unmodified) zmij's benchmarks, and is already tested against ryu-js as baseline (easy since the original harness tests against ryu!) If Boa folks are interested, I'm willing to donate the repo & crate 😀❤️

It's obviously a very difficult task, but there are many load-bearing components that feel just abandoned by Microsoft while unwanted changes that pleases some exec that is completely out of touch with reality get prioritised Engineering-wise everything's there, but the corporate doesn't follow up

It's absolutely easier said than done (especially with the extreme backwards compat Windows offers), but seeing Copilot shoved down our throats, the efforts put into making a Microsoft account mandatory, the ever growing network footprint of Windows, ... Lots of wasted energy (and potential) :(

Hmm I peek'd at the raw data and indeed some days just report half the number of daily downloads than usual huh, I see Sucks that there's no transparency from npm themselves but I guess that'd be asking a bit too much from them (it only took them several months to make code readable in dark mode 🙃)

If Microsoft locked in and overhauled important legacy stuff like the event viewer (ffs it's so useful!!!) and its domain/workgroup management stuff, it'd be SO BACK

Some of the tech foundations are impressive and unmatched even after more than 2 full decades, most certainly holding copious amounts of untapped potential But it's all hidden in a thick layer of adware slop, left to rot without any UX improvements, and all locked away behind closed doors 😭

Windows suffers from the corporate side of Microsoft so much it's heartbreaking really Especially at organisation-scale, the way a whole fleet of computers can operate as a cohesive unified network with stupidly advanced permissions, policy controls, traceability... Absolutely nothing comes close

Say what you will about Windows (OS), but the NT kernel really is an engineering marvel that still puts Linux to shame in many ways. The quickest way to describe it for a programmer, is NT was more like an object-oriented language, with a strong security model from day one, whereas Linux is…not.

At first it surprised me too, but I figured it most likely allowed V8 to skip walking up the prototype chain, which would match the significant drop in instructions dispatched between plain object vs null proto (1.35G instructions down to 750M instructions for my 5MB benchmark)

The internals are quite a lot better in terms of robustness and less clunky to work with. I've commented them a lot, which was much needed too. There's plenty of things that deserves to be further refactored, but it's really paving the way for some of the very-long-term ideas for the lib. Meow!!!!

It's a blessing and a curse to be freelance. Lots of freedom and (depending on your rates) some *very* juicy paydays, but it takes very little for it to go south and money to stop flowing altogether Jobs suck especially in this day and age, but the comfort of a paycheck always coming in is nice… 😭

Latest version of helium.computer (@wukko.me & @schlizzawg.twitter.com) ships with CNAME uncloaking. This is huge, it used to be Firefox-only and the reason why uBO "worked best on Firefox". Now you can have a proper browser that's not a security disaster AND that blocks even the sneakiest ads 🎉
