It's terminal in the sense that once you go into overshoot, you can not stay there. The condition terminates, as it is fundamentally unsustainable.

I don't even know what I was expecting, but whatever it was, this goes past it. I'm even somewhat impressed.

For some added bit of severity, this is only the 3rd time since the start of this list that a 5ppm jump occurred. The other two were 2015-2016 and 1987-1988

I'm not surprised by that at all, I'm well aware that's where the cold air came from. But if you don't think this affects global figures significantly (and it doesn't), then I'm puzzled why you suggest a heatwave of similar duration, with similar sized anomalies would.

That's not significant enough to boost the year's average by this much. And today the North Pole, much of Europe, the US east coast + Alaska, western Russia, Australia and the Middle East are all showing negative anomalies. That 1.47 is going to stick just fine.

At around March I tried to guesstimate where 2025 will end up (though the proof is from 4 months ago), and I said 1.38-1.52°C It was only briefly analytical, based on nothing more than our weak La Nina, but it would be pretty cool if I got it right. Not that it replaces modeling but still.

Or worse yet, they think that they somehow unveiled a global conspiracy, and outplayed thousands of experts from their armchair with a kindergarten-level understanding of the subject and 'gotcha' questions. It truly is exhausting sometimes
