It sucks that most manufacturers implement smart features so poorly (like requiring cloud and not opening up the API locally), but I will die on the hill that smart devices are useful. My washing machine pings me when it's done so I never have washed clothes sit in the machine overnight.

Meanwhile, if you purchase a vehicle and pay off the loan, you'll likely end up with years of loan free driving and only maintenance costs. If money is tight, leasing is not the answer.

I said financial sense. If you've got money to burn and you really, really need to drive a new vehicle all the time, sure, lease away- but it's really not going to save you any money. Depreciation and "loan interest" are built into loan rates. You have zero asset at the end.

Think about your privacy, and how facebook wants to know everything about you so they can sell it to other corporate entities. Then say no to this trash.

To be clear, there is literally NO scenario where leasing a vehicle makes financial sense. Even if you buy a new car and sell it in two years, you're still likely to come out ahead financially (selling yourself, not trading in). Leasing is for suckers who are scared (warranted) of car dealers.

Serious question; what did you hope to accomplish with this statement?
000
cygnim @cygnim.com · 11/09/2026
this Is so disingenuous. Purchase has a permanent connotation to it. If I told you I purchased a vehicle, you would not assume I’m leasing it, you would assume I bought it and I own it.

As an engineer of 20+ years, most of the anti-AI folks I come across are people who just don't want to adapt. It's not hard to prove that AI can increase productive without sacrificing quality- I would argue it can drastically improve quality. AI is just another tool that can be used or abused.

You can "feel" however you want, but folks who produce products for public consumption without compensation owe you NOTHING. Scrutinizing open source projects this way is demoralizing. The AI pushback is absurd- humans are just as capable (if not moreso) of producing bad and malicious code.

Please stop the "all analyst broadcast." It's not good, and I want to watch the game, not the analysts banter about nothing.

How much does it cost to sponsor a rain delay? Do Twins fans hate Uponor as much as they hate rain delays?

Nabu Casa solves this, and 100% of your funds go to the non-profit project that supports Home Assistant. www.nabucasa.com

I'm just hoping the Twins can finish ahead of the White Sox. The bar is pretty low this year.

Why? Most battery operated smart locks can also be opened with a physical key as a backup. If you buy a smart lock from a reputable manufacturer, it can be every bit as secure as a physical key lock. If a burglar is *that* determined to break in, no lock will keep them out.

I can turn off all lights and lock all doors from my phone at bed time. Motion sensors in the basement- when no one is there, the lights and the TV turn off automatically. I have kids Fans turn on when the outside temp is above 80. None of these devices are on the internet. Local only.

100% this! As a manager, I always try to provide a little context about the conversation to be held. Instead of "can we talk" it's not hard to say "I'd like to talk about xyz and it's nothing bad."

I don't know, if you're still outraged by people making unfriendly criticisms of others valid critiques on social media, then 🤷‍♂️. 🤣

I use Brave and do not experience either. As a matter of fact, their built-in ad blocker works pretty well.

Or maybe features shouldn't be installed and turned on by default without any prior authorization from the user. Aggressively pushing products on users without their consent warrants outrage.

12 miles / 10 minutes = 1.2 miles per minute (rate). 10 miles / 8 minutes = 1.25 miles per minute (rate). Therefore- 10 miles, 8 minutes has a higher rate.

Please take your "multiple STEM degrees" and post somewhere else. If you don't like Smart Home tech, why don't you just leave the enthusiasts alone and post somewhere else? Your self-righteous diatribe is completely unnecessary, and inaccurate anyway.

I’d be happy to help. My wife is an android user and I’m on iOS and she’s pretty happy with the smart home I’ve built with home assistant

What’s a good speaker to pair with home assistant voice preview that is relatively small but has great sound?

I have so many questions. The main one being, “why?” 🙂

cygnim @cygnim.com · 26/11/2025
I get it, but I disagree. IaC leaves the general public behind. Home Assistant isn't just for techies and is fulfilling the desire to make smart homes accessible to more people. More users means more investment and diversity in devices. This is a far better approach.

I am seeking truth, I’ve asked for evidence of your assertions and you repeatedly say “I know people”. Meanwhile, I’ve provided proven facts about the Chinese govt and their policies. You’ve only offered a silly accusation of US persecution whereby you can’t provide a single concrete example.
000
cygnim @cygnim.com · 13/11/2025
So no concrete examples. Got it. Chinese students studying abroad are by and large the wealthy beneficiaries of the communist govt.

China literally does just that all the time to their citizens. Can you actually provide even a shortlist of Americans in prison for exercising their first amendment right to free speech?

You should talk to the hordes of Chinese nationals who have been persecuted by an oppressive govt. abut you can’t because they’re locked away and silenced.

Chinese oppression facts: -1 child laws (finally rolled back due to economic impact) -internet censorship -single ruling party -widespread poverty -state controlled media -no freedom of speech protections. -Criticism of the government of any kind can result in prison and loss of assets

Chinese citizens have zero freedom of speech rights and some of the most severe censorship in the world. The US is at a low point right now, but saying oppression is worse here than China is utter nonsense.

He’s not terminally ill, he’s not stupid, he’s not impulsive. He’s power hungry, and he has smart people with horrible plans for the country who are very calculating in their actions.
010
cygnim @cygnim.com · 19/09/2025
I think the opposite is true. Don’t dismiss their actions as rash and undisciplined. The opposite is true- this is all according to plan. Democrats underestimating them is how we got here in the first place.
100
cygnim @cygnim.com · 18/09/2025
That's folly as well. Part of the problem has been the miscalculation by Democrats. Everyone wants to think Trump is stupid, rash, and uncalculating when it's clear he is not, he just looks the part. He has until the mid-terms to solidify his power, and he's making it happen quickly. Scary fast.

Are you kidding? These aren’t “desperate moves”. These are power grabs by an administration that is no longer constrained by political opposition in congress or the courts. The fact that this blatant overreach so easily occurred is evidence that fascism has taken hold in the USA. Wake up.

Ah geez. It’s a sport, it’s athletic competition, they keep score, they compete. I’ll just leave it at my original point. You just hate pickleball and want to scapegoat it. 🤷
110
cygnim @cygnim.com · 12/09/2025
I’d rather watch basketball than pickleball, but the idea that one sports success is another’s failure is silly.
110
cygnim @cygnim.com · 12/09/2025
I think the truth is, you just hate pickleball. That's fine, but the venom towards this is silly. Why are you not celebrating the success of all female athletes? The success of one group of athletes doesn't happen to the detriment of others- the inverse is true.
