also, "Better" wouldn't exist without this Grabbitz song. this instrumental/production style was pretty front-of-mind when i first started putting the initial demo together in early 2016. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzuS...

the repetition of "i know you'll do better without me" in the hook isn't (solely) me trying to reassure the other person, it's largely me trying to convince myself that that's the case. it might not be. i don't know that for sure.

i wrote "Better" from the perspective of an avoidant person who was so used to relationships (both romantic and platonic) meeting catastrophic ends, that they tried to have this sort of "prepared" script for when it came time to leave. (sort of an exaggerated version of how i was carrying myself.)

as i was writing the lyrics for "Better", events were set into motion that resulted in my losing both a romantic relationship (on this exact day 3 years ago) and a separate friendship. both were incredibly important to me, and i miss both of those people very terribly to this day.

in 2023, i was leaving a job i felt bad about leaving, because i liked most of my coworkers, and i knew my absence would result in extra work for people i cared about.

“Sunday Night Sad” featuring @jacktheunderdog.bsky.social is out now!! 💫 i started this song way back in 2021, sort of as a joke. i thought maybe if i make fun of this weird specific capitalism-induced quarter-life crisis flavor of depression, maybe that will make it go away! 🤪 stream: ffm.to/sns

on Spotify for Artists, i used to be able to "preview" my artist profile and find any upcoming release displayed like this. unfortunately, Spotify seems to have discontinued that function, a decision which i am not a fan of. it was one of my favorite ways to share news of upcoming music.

old screenshot from my Spotify for Artists featuring my song "Own Good Time" with the artwork darkened, a lock symbol on top of it with the words "only you can see this", and blue text at the bottom that reads "releases jun 24, 2022"

the "weathered" version of Own Good Time will be coming out on monday, june 2nd. it reflects the vibe shift we've felt in the queer community since the original version came out in 2022. ffm.to/ogtw

one of my best friends dropped their sophomore album today and it’s loaded with bangers (and one of my favorite slow songs ever)

CyFi 💫 @cyfi.bsky.social · 13/12/2024

so now, i’m posting once again that i will be releasing more than one song in the upcoming year. ideally the whole album! we’ll see what the future brings 😅

i’ve been picking up the pieces for the past handful of months, which included finally finishing and releasing “secondary” back in october. and now, i’m 23 days out from a new living situation with a couple of dear friends, and maybe finally enjoying the stability that has eluded me for so long.

CyFi 💫 @cyfi.bsky.social · 13/12/2024

2024 was unexpectedly an off year for me, as i was hoping to have an album out by now. i even posted last year about wanting to release more than one song in 2024, but unexpected life events and their subsequent detriment to my mental health derailed that.

i’d forgotten how easily songs about heartbreak can just fall out of me. wrote one from start to finish in under 24 hours, and i’m really proud of it! look forward to sharing it in a year or two cuz i have this other album to finish first 😂

a line in a verse in an unfinished song of mine will be directly affected by how this Minnesota state flag redesign process turns out. PLEASE give us a good variation of F1953! (aka Polaris Tricolor)
