Prepare your kids to have unsupervised access to devices by preparing them with how to use devices, just like you would preparing them to swim on their own! You don’t just throw them in water and hope for the best, the same applies to technology! #samerulesapply #onlinesafety #digitalliteracy

Nothing in life is truly free - in digital world, if something is free, you are the product, your time, your data - you may not be fronting money but you are spending it indirectly. By the food, clothes, makeup, toys, books, household organising boxes, etc that you buy because of targeted ads.

Do you know what your kids are doing on their devices? If not, get to know through genuine interest! Be excited to learn what they like to do, and find ways to get involved! Show them what you like to do on your devices, and talk about how you manage your own screen time!

The dangers of the internet expressed in Adolescence feel lost here… The family who own the house from adolescence agreed to their kids faces and names being put on a public website outside the home they live in, where millions of people know or can easily find their address.

Knowing where support and advice is available can help you and your kids be more confident about your online safety! Common sense media is really useful to find reviews of movies, games, apps etc. Helping you decide on the risks.

A first step in keeping your kids secure online is by knowing what they’re using their devices for! Ask questions to find out what they are interested in, make mental notes of any concerns and have a think about if they’re genuine safety concerns or just you don’t like it.

When letting your kids use the internet remember, the internet was not designed with kids in mind. The way the internet functions and much of what is on the internet was not intended for kids to use. We need to first supervise and teach our kids how to use the internet safely…

Very helpful feature from the NSPCC on the page for reporting abuse. Short cuts to close the tab or change what is on the screen quickly could be so important if you need to make a report in a potentially dangerous situation.

The most sensible tweets I have read on Twitter in a long time… accountability is missing right now. The first information is the least reliable, but when it meets the narrative it’s the fastest that spreads.

No parental control is going to completely eliminate access to unsuitable content… When you give your child access to a device you are accepting the risk they will see something you deem unsuitable. Open communication and education is key to kids understanding and growth.
