What many have not fully grasped is the sheer damage to the wider game done by pouring enormous sums in. Not just City - see Chelsea (twice), PSG - but it goes far beyond doing others out of trophies We hear endlessly of the PL's 'riches' but look at the absolute state of this

Would love to be presented with evidence otherwise but yet to see anyone link the extraordinary and continual losses of almost all clubs in the EFL to this scandal. Wage inflation is an existential threat to football as we currently know it and few dare say it. Or even realise

Exactly right Although I'd probably extend it to Mr Scholar and 1983

But that's the point, it's where the wider game has been driven to. United dip into short-term debt facilities like a cookie jar when they never used it pre-2021. Spurs have gone from being one of the most sustainable clubs in England to £320m owner funding inside a year

Most disheartening development over the last week has been the ludicrous idea they're freedom fighters against an unfair system

City spent over £80m on Ayyoub Bouaddi. Gave him 10 mins today, 32 so far and they can afford to ease him in as they spent £241m on two other midfielders. He cost over £80m! Love them, loathe them, like them, don't mind them, you cannot argue it's in any way healthy for football

Aleksander Ceferin, the UEFA president, said he would “lead by example” and not stand more than three terms to set a good example. Now that third term is coming to an end, guess what? Aleksander Ceferin is standing four a fourth term at the same time he has called for better governance at FIFA. 😵‍💫

Thank you (other Chris basically wrote it so praise him!) and yes, preferred to show v each club individually but it became too messy They've actually reduced the gap on all six, but by v different amounts. By 2024-25 they'd closed it by £100m+ on United and Chelsea but only £13m on L'pool and City

Remarkably, in an era of rampant wage inflation, Juventus' wage bill last season was at its lowest since 2016 and, on most recent figures, would only be ninth-highest in England Still required €67million in owner funding to keep things ticking along

Juventus lost further €58million pre-tax in 2025-26. Made up loss of €27m CWC monies with improved sponsorships and dropped the wage bill five per cent, but player profits fell from €66m to €40m Juve have lost over €1billion pre-tax since 2017. Nine straight years of losses
