We are disappointed that Governor Newsom vetoed SB 1125, a bill that would have addressed water affordability & ensured that all families have access to safe & affordable water. Thank you to Senator Menjivar, who championed this bill. We will continue to fight for affordable water.

SB 1125 & AB 2739, the two bills that would create a low-income water rate assistance program, passed out of their respective Appropriations Committees last week! The bills now await being heard on the floor of their respective houses, where every member will vote on them.

AB 2739 by Asm. Soria & SB 1125 by Sen Menjivar have made it out of the appropriations committees of their respective houses. AB 2739 will move to the Assembly floor for a final vote, and SB 1125 will move to the Senate floor for a final vote as well.

Updates from E. Orosi: construction continues to move forward. Expect delays as the pipe is installed on Ave 417 & Ave 416 in August. The next meeting will be on Sept. 24th at Iglesia La Paz in E. Orosi. If you have any water or wastewater emergencies, call 559-624-700.

The SAFER program is now at risk, with a projected funding estimate of only $24 million - a major step back from the promised $130 million & no plan to backfill funds. We need the Governor & Leg to protect safe drinking water by reinstating the General Fund backfill for SAFER.
