The Commissioner Designate for Victims of Crime has today made a statement on believing victims who report sexual abuse. Read the full statement here: cvocni.org/news/commiss...
Quote from Commissioner Designate: "Supporting victims to come forward and ensuring impartial investigations are not competing principles. They are both essential requirements of a fair and effective justice system. We should be able to reassure victims that they will be believed enough in the first instance that their complaints will be investigated thoroughly and that such investigations will be independent, impartial and grounded in evidence at all times."

We very much welcome the introduction of the Sentencing Bill, which will deliver more stringent sentences for a range of offences. We wish to express our deep appreciation of all the victims who have campaigned so selflessly on behalf of future victims & families to ensure the delivery of justice.

PPS - Our third annual victim survey points to satisfaction levels with treatment improving, as is being kept informed on the date of the court case. However, there is an ongoing issue around the assessment of victims' needs in advance of trial. @justice-ni.bsky.social

Today we are highlighting some early findings from our 3rd annual victim survey. While we see some improvements, confidence in the criminal justice system's ability to deliver justice remains unacceptably low. Our heartfelt thanks to those who had the courage to share their experiences.
