Pte William ‘ Billy’ McFadzean, was one of four men of the 36th Division awarded the Victoria Cross for their bravery on 1st July. In 1917, the first memorial was unveiled to mark his ultimate sacrifice. Tennyson’s poem, ‘Crossing The Bar’, was sung as part of the service.

Yesterday, 14th June, marked 100 years since the granting of the Ferguson Master Patent. This was a milestone that transformed tractor design and revolutionised farming. A century on, its innovation continues to power progress in agriculture.

85 years ago, on 5th May 1941, the fourth and final raid of the Belfast Blitz took place. It claimed approximately 987 lives and 50,000 homes damaged. Some of its victims were temporarily stored at the Falls Baths, the tragic inspiration for Michael Longley’s poem ‘Blitz’.
