Curtis @curtis.engineer · 26/09/2026I used to swear by plan mode, and it’s where I would spend the majority of my time/tokens. This post just made me realize I no longer do this. I don’t remember when the switch happened 010 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 25/09/2026Came here to say this, but I see there was another annoying Linux guy beat me to the punch. 120 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 22/09/2026That’s the Hail Mary pass they are banking on, at least that’s what I think. Stoke fears (real and imagined), invite regulation, be one of the 3 or 4 allowed to compete in the market. 000 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 22/09/2026I’m sticking by my forecast that open models eat the market. I can’t wait to read the book that gets published in a decade that gives us an inside look at what’s going on. It’s my suspicion that these escapes are not frowned upon internally because it fuels hype. Whatever it takes for headlines 100 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 22/09/2026It’s so frustrating. They should have ignored him all along because he’s always been a fraud and confidence man. The media failed us by pretending that he was a legitimate businessman and candidate because he drove views and clicks. Maybe not ignored him, but at least cover him the way he deserved. 000 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 03/09/2026Today I’m going to try out the Mapquest app to see if I can replace Google Maps. I love that instead of a car icon I can have a little green guy troll/goblin looking icon. Let’s see if I can get from point A to point B. 010 0

Curtis @curtis.engineer · 02/09/2026This reminds me I need to take time off work soon to go get my CPAP machine looked at 020 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 02/09/2026I really enjoyed it. I went in very guarded and was pleasantly surprised that it was as good as the hype. 000 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 02/09/2026Not at all taking his side on this by any means. Why’s (poignant) guide to Ruby still comes to my mind when I’m trying to remember something about Ruby. Absolutely excellent learning tool 010 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 02/09/2026I’m willing to bet that this isn’t actually a strongly held opinion by the video creator. I think it’s the pressure to always release a new video on some cadence to appease the algorithm and keep getting recommended to new viewers. This looks like having to content when fresh out of content ideas 100 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 26/08/2026Also is just a very good episode. It makes me hopeful that there may be a social network someday that is immune to billionaires. It would be nice if it was immune to other issues like posting exclusively for engagement instead of genuine viewpoints 010 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 26/08/2026In this episode @justingarrison.com explains why he left twitter, which is why I left twitter. I read the Ashlee Vance bio back in like 2016 and finally clocked dude as a hype man cosplaying as a genius to make sure his companies enjoy high P/E ratios while he sucks the air out of given market 121 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 19/08/2026Basically this is the lore manual to mathematics. There may be better ones out there, but this one was like $10 and doesn’t get too wordy. 010 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 19/08/2026I like this as a reference. When learning a new field of math, I read the section on it to get some context on the person who developed that particular field of math, and kind of what the time period was like. I think this gives my mind something to flesh out concepts other than memorizing formulas. 240 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 09/08/2026I’m disappointed that Bluesky is (at least it seems to me lately) also going down the road of people saying things for engagement instead of things they actually believe. I pose this is also why there are so many generated images that protest gen ai. They want you to point it out in the comments 000 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 06/08/2026There are few companies I trust less than Meta. I won’t click it, I won’t use it. 010 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 01/08/2026You would think this works better than it does. I have a global file that says the agent is running on an atomic operating system and all the details of what that entails, but agents regularly check what version of something installed is by using dnf or yum. Opus especially does this. 021 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 31/07/2026All I talk about is plants anyways, so extremely on brand for me to start a convo about this at thanksgiving 020 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 30/07/2026Same, as in we didn’t have money. I would spend any time I could on the library computer, filled the rest of my time building redboxes. A $6 telephone from dollar tree was more in my budget. I used a steel junction box as a shell once that would make my hands tingle every time I used it. 010 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 27/07/2026I only recently became aware of some of the things that he’s said in the past. I very much stay out of X and facebook and all that, so I usually don’t know the goss. This is going to alienate a lot (more) of people in the Ruby community, which is such a shame. 100 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 27/07/2026 I had a colleague from France ask me why I didn’t just use vs code or whatever, and I think it was the first time someone actually asked me. I had no idea what to say. I gave a bunch of vague answers that just amounted to “once it clicked for me, I never wanted to click around an editor again”. 000 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 27/07/2026Yeah, I keep thinking I’m going to find a missing feature I need, but not so far. At this point I guess it has 100% replaced my tmux workflow. I thought it was neat but didn’t think it was going to become central to all I do so quickly 010 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 27/07/2026Went with the Paper Pro. Really happy with it, but I probably should have gone with the smaller one. Pretty glad that’s one less Amazon product in my life. iPhone is on its last leg and on its way out too. 000 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 22/07/2026Perhaps the term most applicable that is in use is “one shotted”. I think that’s what most people mean such as not caring/understanding, just “make no mistakes”. Pair programming with an LLM is an educational multiplier that people without mentors can tap into. I don’t think this is “vibecoding” 020 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 22/07/2026I agree about the term vibecoding. It’s undeniable catchy, but also I think is not specific and can be misleading. I try not to use vibecoded when I speak, but I’ve officially given in to using the blanket term AI 110 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 22/07/2026My opinion currently is the whole industry is awash with terms that don’t make sense. Calling LLMs the blanket term “AI” is the most grating. Earlier if someone said “AI” I assumed they either didn’t understand LLMs or they were BS-ing to raise money. Now it’s just normal and I’m adjusting 100 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 07/07/2026And here I am with the opinion that open models are inevitable 030 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 05/07/2026Anyone recommend the reMarkable Paper Pure? Something else? 100 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 05/07/2026Yesterday I woke up to my kindle scribe not working. I use this thing constantly for reading, and not importantly I write all my notes in it. Tried a repair shop, no go. Tried Amazon support, whose strategy seems to be to frustrate you until you give up. Trade in value is $9 on amazon. 000 0
Curtis @curtis.engineer · 05/07/2026I mean really all I need is a foundation of all the Coheed and Cambria and all the Dance Gavin Dance albums. After that just build on that monthly. 🤔 000 0
