Open the pod bay doors, HAL. 2001 premiered 50 years ago today. Massive impact on 15 year old me. My already budding fascination with sci-fi was boosted through the stratosphere. Still love the film today.

My father was an air traffic controller in WWII at Bovington UK. He was proud to risk his life fighting Nazi fascism. I imagine him visiting an RAF pub something like the Eagle in Cambridge, pictured here from a trip I took a few years ago. It is a real piece of history (and still a fine pub).

Just over a year ago, our city watched as important communities burned to ash. Rebuilding takes a long time. Not much has happened yet to rebuild but it is all in the works. Some areas will not be the same.
