Text: Creating your abstract.A dark blue background with a large pair of purple and yellow butterfly wings in the centre. On top, there is a piece of white paper.

Text: Tip 1. Ensure the basis of your submission is clear. What position are you writing from? For example, you could be writing about religion from a sociological perspective. Tip 2. Have clarity. Ensure the language you use is accessible, engaging, and understandable. Don't assume the reader knows the details of the idea you're writing about.A dark blue background with a large pair of orange and blue butterfly wings in the centre. On top, there is a piece of white paper.

Text: Tip 3. Be explicit. Directly discuss your work in your abstract. Cover the main area or areas of your submission, and the key issues you are wanting to address within your paper. Tip 4. Show us who you are! Be flashy, show off how much you love the paper you've written. Be excited about your research. Write as if you were telling someone else how much they would enjoy your topic.

Bennett shares this linguistic barrier in trying to write the language of shared materiality by saying ‘It seems necessary and impossible to rewrite the default grammar of agency, a grammar that assigns activity to people and passivity to things.
