Writer and environmentalist Wendell Berry has died at age 92. Here's @AssociatedPress's tribute to the author and poet. Below is the text of one of his most famous poems, "The Peace of Wild Things." flip.it/IMwWDb #Books #Bookstodon #WendellBerry
The text of The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry

The Peace of Wild Things

Wendell Berry

When despair for the world grows in me

and I wake in the night at the least sound

in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake

rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things

who do not tax their lives with forethought

of grief. I come into the presence of still water.

And I feel above me the day-blind stars

waiting with their light. For a time

I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

And so say all of us, @brianbilston #Poetry #Culture #BrianBilston #Poem
A poem, black text on white background

Prayer for Uninteresting Times

Send me a slow news day,
a quiet, subdued day,
in which nothing much happens of note, save for the passing of time,
the consumption of wine,
and a re-run of "Murder, She Wrote."

Grant me a no news day,
a spare-me-your-views day,
in which nothing much happens at all, except a few hours together
some regional weather,
a day we can barely recall.

Mnemonic

Thirty days hath September,
April, June and November.
Unless a leap year is its fate,
February hath twenty-eight.
All the rest hath three days more,
excepting January,
which hath six thousand,
one hundred and eighty-four.
