I don't believe it is, either. I think there's a really good reason why the ideals of liberal societies tend to root deep and last centuries in a culture, while they just can't seem to be able to get fascism to stick for very long.

The years of effort redefining in-groups and creating enemies is only necessary because fascism requires good people to be duped to gather power. If you can make someone believe they're in enough danger, they will narrow their in-group until they'll forgive atrocity. But that's not pathological.

I don't know about that. I think that mindset undermines the insidiousness of how fascist movements get started. If there were enough people truly and totally disconnected from others, we have no hope of keeping fascism dead. (ramble, I got one more->)

I don't know the answer, but I do wonder if you'd find more cognitive dissonance in the rhetoric of artists with fascist-aligned ideas. Many fascists trick themselves into believing there's flexibility in the ideology. I wouldn't be surprised if you saw more of that from creative minds.

There's a fundamental connection between incuriosity, artlessness, and fascism. By the way, I think the distinction between racism and fascism is important here. Racism is something we all carry, but fascism is an aberration. We're all a little of one, but not the other.
