Late to the train, but really loving Slow Horses. Though you'd think the show was sponsored by Thames Water with the amount of time they spend shitting on River 😭

£20 boxes of bricks with no rules are still available. However, for people that do have a connection to the nostalgia bait being put out and want to spend an afternoon doing something akin to a jigsaw puzzle or paint by numbers, it's a nice bit of fun. The price is bullshit, though, I'll concede.

FFVII:Rebirth is probably next. Got pretty near the end and just stopped for some reason. Get that squared away before the sequel next year

Haven't actually finished any games in a while, just kept flitting across my library, so I committed to finishing the new Onimusha. Rolled credits on it last night and that was massively cathartic. Helps that the game was real real good too.

Changed my life is a bit strong, but I rolled credits on the new Onimusha last night and that was a pretty great feeling. Real good game, weirdly nostalgic despite the more modern souls-like mechanics. Something about the writing, I think.

Videogames are built on choices. This can be as simple as putting an obstacle in the middle of a coridoor. The player has only one choice, go around it on the left or the right. It is STILL a choice, and keeps the game interactive. But to be enjoyable, your options must have consequences...

I sure hope there's something to it, or I'm wasting my time a little 😅 I went a slightly different way in that designing a game and the choices you make throughout prompts you into learning more about the themes you're using. It's potentially good for assessment too, rather than rote exams.

This resonates hard. I grew up wanting to be a games designer, went to uni for it, then realised that while I love games to bits, I don't love making them in the same way Luckily, Brunel had a Games Studies track and I had space to realise writing about the theory behind games was a lot more my jam

I struggle with horror myself a lot of the time, but I feel like Obsession balances horror and comedy really super well, actually. A few bits might get you, but overall, it shouldn't be too bad. I hope you love it, I certainly did 👍

Mando season one was great - dude and his stray going on cowboy adventures in space - but after that it started becoming 'lore food'. It stopped using the setting for cool stories (like Andor does) and started just feeding the greater lore beast, especially with the crossover/spin off stuff.

To paraphrase a friend: stay on the path, make good things. Indie has always flourished in the face of AAA distraction. Times are bad, but let others deskill, pivot to nonsense or chase impossible outcomes. People really like playing videogames. Suits forget that every 6 months or so.
