Andy Ellis @csoandy.bsky.social · 22/12/2024A general rule for critical analysis of any research that purports to model human thinking: generate a random dataset. If the effect is stronger in the random dataset than in the research, the research is bunk. 020
Andy Ellis @csoandy.bsky.social · 22/12/2024The belief in D-K persists because expert humans - think Neil Degrasse Tyson - fail spectacularly when just outside their area of expertise, because they can’t see the infelicities in their models (or hubris). That’s not a general effect on all humanity. 120
Andy Ellis @csoandy.bsky.social · 22/12/2024Nope, worse than that. The refined analysis is that asked to score themselves on a *percentile* basis against an unknown cohort will substantially outperform against random weighting. Which is strong evidence that, even when the system is rigged, humans are really good at general self-assessment. 110

Andy Ellis @csoandy.bsky.social · 22/12/2024Haven’t listened to the podcast, but you do know that the research that D-K relied on is sloppy, and, if anything, disproves the D-K effect? The study itself is the best argument for the effect … because many social science researches are incompetent at basic data analysis. 120

Andy Ellis @csoandy.bsky.social · 23/03/2024I did not say “as the war”, nice try. But there are prices - especially in the lives of future Hamas victims - that one does not pay. But it sounds to me like you’re perfectly comfortable leaving Hamas in a place to keep killing Jews, so we’re done here. 100
Andy Ellis @csoandy.bsky.social · 23/03/2024Sounds like you’re projecting. “If you cared” is the rhetorical sound of someone with no empathy. 100
Andy Ellis @csoandy.bsky.social · 23/03/2024It has to be airdropped to get past areas Hamas controls. Many of the trucks are simply taken by Hamas; have you noticed how plump many of the Hamas terrorists are when captured and stripped to small clothes? 100
Andy Ellis @csoandy.bsky.social · 23/03/2024Hamas didn’t offer to free all of them. And some prices are too high to pay. I do actually care; but I’m suspecting you do not, except as a bludgeon to use rhetorically. 100

Andy Ellis @csoandy.bsky.social · 23/03/2024Anyway, thanks for demonstrating that you’re perfectly comfortable supporting Hamas’s genocidal desires and actions, including raping Jewish women in captivity. 200
Andy Ellis @csoandy.bsky.social · 23/03/2024Yes they are. Israel facilitates a huge amount of aid into Gaza, but a huge chunk of it disappears, only to be resold by Hamas on the black market. 200
