The pledge to stop rough sleeping is great but as a housing lawyer and academic (including for local authorities) that will only happen with reform of social housing allocations, repeal of the right to buy and removal of priority need - I'm not sure the political will is there?

With all of these defections by the far right of the Tory party, it's a shame that they decimated their liberals under Boris Johnson. Some sound voices like Dominic Grieve and Rory Stewart might just save the party & undermine Reform...

I went into law because of Star Trek (TOS, TNG, DS9, etc), Buck Rogers, Quincy, Ironsides, Perry Mason, Columbo and so many other series. What is now seen as twee, I saw as aspirational. When did we lose that?

Free speech is free speech, it's not the preserve of the far right or left. To claim to champion free speech while trying to shut down opposing voices is the antithesis of free speech

Also, @suellabravermanmp.bsky.social if the SQE exams are that easy, you're qualified as a barrister, so please sit them...

@suellabravermanmp.bsky.social maybe if you want to have a discussion with someone who knows something about SQE rather than playing to your followers, you might want to reach out? Especially given many of us have substantial practical legal experience? www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/08...

Snowflake solicitors are destroying a once proud profession
Britain cannot afford for entitlement to infect the corridors of legal ambition

To any lawyers out there thinking the SQE is a "fair" assessment of candidates' ability - 1 "single best answer" MCQ every 90 seconds without publishing the questions... Oh, and all candidates have to sign a NDA... the SRA have a lot to answer for (not least the lack of oversight)!

Had an amazing #LSA2025 with some really thought provoking papers in the Law and Technology stream, followed by five days sightseeing in Chicago - a beautiful city with some great people!

Sorry for the poor picture, but just purchased this in Chicago and don't want to remove the dust cover to protect it on the flight home (100% donated to Ukraine causes) - a collection of stories about "oberih" - an item that protects

@kemibadenochmp.bsky.social abandoning the European Convention on Human Rights, drafted by Conservative lawyers under Winston Churchill, is a fundamentally flawed policy.

happy first birthday to Bluesky, and what a year it's been! with every day, the need for an open network that puts people first becomes increasingly clear. we're glad to be building this with you. after all, the heart of a social network is the people.
Popular meme format, grandma labeled with "bluesky's public launch was one year ago today." Younger person helping her labeled with "sure grandma let's get you to bed."

Seriously? So, if you're fleeing an abusive partner, have claimed some assistance in terms of housing or benefits, you shouldn't be a citizen of the UK...? Grow up and get a grip on why you lost! BBC News - I'd make it harder to get British citizenship, says Badenoch www.bbc.com/news/article...

Good morning. Word of the Day is as beautiful as it is underused. ‘Confelicity’ is finding joy in the happiness and success of others.
