Our Janes report is live. In it, Sean O'Connor and I examine developments across China’s early warning network. Among the more notable is a unpublicized system resembling a possible land-based derivative of the Type 346 radar. A series of these have been identified along China's littorals. #geoint

For those who don't have access to imagery, a new Russian radar we've been monitoring that could be associated with the S-500 is now in Google Earth.

A nice 1 look collect from @capellaspace.bsky.social showed the total destroyed structures at the Ahvez UAV airstrip which included UAV hangars, weapons storage areas, the control building, and various support structures.

Looking at imagery, we often focus on what's not present as much as we do with what's present. This recent conflict between Israel and Iran was no different. It provided us with another opportunity to look at what Iran has been testing out at Kashan airport after they dispersed their UAVs.

While things have slowed down between Iran and Israel, there's still plenty of accounting to be done to fully understand the damage to the air defense network. Plant imagery acquired 1128Z 24JUN2025 showed a destroyed Matla-al-fajr VHF radar and two probable containerized missiles.

Planet imagery acquired 1036Z 18JUN2025 showed that the Bavar system IVO the refinery has likely redeployed approximately 650 m west to a legacy air defense position.

Iran's air defense continues to be degraded. Planet imagery acquired 0744Z 18JUN2025 highly suggests Israeli airstrikes have destroyed S-200 components to include the two 5N62 SQUARE PAIR and the 5N84 TALL KING radars. These were deployed around the Eight Shekari Airbase in Isfahan.

"Good night sweet prince" I've been tracking Iranian frankenradars for years, and today Tehran lost one I believe to be the basis for several others that have popped up recently.

There must be trouble in The People's Paradise as the Choi Hyon-class destroyer remains at the shipyard despite the relaunch ceremony on 12JUN2025. It'll be amusing to see how long the boat stays in the dock given estimates provided by KNCA. Will shipyard workers escape execution? Stay tuned.

Yesterday, the IRIN dispersed the fleet to anchorage outside of Bandar Abbas, practically emptying the naval base. CAO 0157Z / 0487L 15JUN2025 the majority of the fleet remained IVO 27.109490,56.204725. (Imagery @planetlabs.bsky.social)

Last we saw there was a Bavar series system deployed to Eslamshahr. Yesterday, the Israeli airstrikes may have taken out the radar. There's a possible burn scar in @planetlabs.bsky.social 3m imagery where the radar was last parked, and the TEL position now appears empty.

Continuing today with the Russia's Tu-160s. Umbra SAR collected at 1108Z shows additional airframes have arrived at Petropavlovsk in Russia's Far East with five now redeployed to the airport since 02JUN2025. They're identified in this Umbra 50 cm collect by their shadows.

Umbra SAR acquired 0904Z 10JUN2025 continues to the show the presence of 2 x Tu-160 BLACKJACK at Anadyr airbase in Russia’s far east since arriving on 04JUN2025 after Operation Spiderweb. The civil-military airport is a routine deployment location for Russian Long-Range Aviation.

In my latest Janes report, we look at the India-China border around the last two friction points since the disengagement in October 2024. Satellite imagery suggests the parties have maintained their rotations and have continued strengthening their relative positions.

In today's episode of our favorite hermit kingdom, we continue monitoring the Choi Hyon-class destroyer which fell during launch. SAR shows the vessel has relocated from Chongjin to the Rajin Shipyard to continue repairs. According to a KCNA report, the vessel will be dry docked between 7-10 days.

In today's episode 'As the hermit kingdom turns' workers moved the Choi Hyon-class destroyer over to the wharf likely to continue assessing damages. According to Pyongyang's KCNA, the vessel will be moved to the Rajin Ship Repair Factory where work is expected to take between 7-10 days.

We have some very accurate counts of the damaged and destroyed aircraft from Ukraine's Operation Spiderweb using satellite imagery and Ukraine's released footage at Janes. A big thanks to US commercial GEOINT in helping make it possible. (H/T to @planetlabs.bsky.social / Umbra)

A pair of intraday collects (via Planet / Umbra) show the continuation of our DPRK soap opera. The Choi Hyon-class destroyer has now moved away from the slipway since 0154Z and is now afloat in the basin. However, balloons remain tethered along the vessel’s entire length.

Umbra's SAR from today shows that the DPRK's Choi Hyon-class destroyer has remained upright but has not relocated for repairs from the side-launch slideway since workers raised the vessel on 02JUN2025.

Today, Ukrainian intelligence launched 117 attack drones from trucks that had been placed near Russian air bases. I tasked several collects this morning via Umbra and my first images have already started processing. What a remarkable success in a well-executed operation.

My latest Janes report is live and looks at the PLARF taking delivery of the latest batch of DF-26 TELs. It's likely the additional launchers will be filling out existing brigades to full strength, which we assess to be 36 TELs per brigade. Thanks to umbra for the excellent collection. #geoint

I keep looking at Planet's stock price and wonder why shares are so oversold when I know how much goodness can be squeezed out of Planetscope—especially when put alongside other INTs. Below is a great example of the Shandong conducting carrier exercises in the South China Sea last month.

My Janes report is out for subscribers looking at the the expansion of China's DF-26 IRBM launcher inventory during 2023-2024. The number of TELs identified in 2024 could constitute up to two full 36 TEL brigades.
