Awesome! Something like this has been on my “to build at some point” list as well. The website mentions that the files are encrypted and only chosen ones can read them. How will you make sure that this is the case? To decrypt the files they need a key, but you cannot have it. What if they forget?

The project isn't even open for sign ups yet, but the internet already wants to poke at it. Got a wave of: GET /docker/.env GET /docker-compose.yaml GET /docker-compose.override.yml ... Moments like these always remind me to double check if I left something open somewhere. 🤔 #buildinpublic

It took me about a week to get up and running with Helix. Now I know more about LSPs (Language Server Protocol) than I ever wanted. 😅 With VS Code everything just works magically. Meanwhile I just found out that "HTML LSP" is an actual thing. 😱 My touch typing is also improving, which is nice.

So my next experiment is to use Helix for an extended period and see how it affects my workflow. If my battery life improves a bit too, even better. 😄 By the way, I had trouble copy/pasting this post from the editor, ha-ha... 😅

I know just enough Vim to edit config files without crying, but that's about it. While looking at options I found Neovim and Helix as modern alternatives. After trying both, the Helix "selection -> action" philosophy seems to be closer to how I think.

This year I wanted something more radical. I'm very used to GUI IDEs like VS Code, but I always have a Terminal open anyway for running projects and handling Git commands. So I wondered: what if I just lived inside the Terminal for a while?

I try to learn at least one new tech every year. It keeps me from becoming the classic grumpy developer who says "things were better in 2009". 😅 Last year it was 3D printing and ChatGPT. Before that Docker and Devcontainers. 🧵 #buildinpublic

One step closer. Now components can also synchronize between pages. 🚀 But the code needs a serious cleanup... 😅 #buildinpublic

My kitchen scale always beeps when I turn it on. It even has a "mute" button, but it forgets it's muted. The other day I finally snapped, opened it up, and cut the beeper cable. It's silent now. Yet every time I turn it on, I still hear the beep in my mind. 😅 Shouldn't have waited this long...

Thanks! Well, not too unique, but the two use cases that I'm planning for are: 1. Reusable blocks, e.g. header navigation on every page, then you don't have to edit your header everywhere because it stays in sync 2. Repeater blocks, when some data comes from the DB, like a list of blog posts

I’ve been working on custom components in remake lately. It’s rough around the edges, but it’s finally starting to work! Still a lot to fix though. #buildinpublic

Yes, it would. But users, who somewhat understand the default language, could continue using the app. For example, if the users see “featureA.helpMessage”, they wouldn’t know how to continue, but if they at least see the message in English, they would be surprised, but could go on. 🤷‍♂️

Csaba @csaba.xyz · 04/11/2025
I normally use English in the code as the fallback to not show the “ugly” keys when a translation is missing, and other languages have their own translation files. Something like: t(‘home:welcome’, ‘Welcome to XYZ’)

Does anybody know why the desktop ChatGPT interface turns upside down sometimes? 🤔🙃

Makes total sense! 👍 But I think the privacy policy is kind of the easy part (as long as you don’t want to do all kinds of shady stuff with the data). The terms are harder when the customers can add their own content. Lots of edge cases there.

When I’m not building online experiences, I’m busy creating spooky offline ones with my wife at our English academy. Not sure if the kids enjoyed it more or we did. 🎃 Happy Halloween! 🎃👻 #buildinpublic

ChatGPT-based search. 😄 Instead of searching I could just ask “Hey remember when we talked about X? Please, give me a summary of those conversations with reference links.”. I don’t understand why their search has to be a barely functioning full text search. 🤔

Always fighting with my resistance to post something. It is too easy to just code and forget about the marketing part. 😅

Working on the media library & Unsplash integration for remake. Now the grid lets you preview images even if they don’t fit in the box, with a nice horizontal or vertical animation. Next step: getting custom components to work. 🤔 Once that's done, I can start accepting alpha users. 😱 #buildinpublic

He probably has the straightest programmer back I’ve ever seen (I think he doesn’t even have back support?). I’m like this a lot of times: 🦐 (I’m working on it though 😄).

Maybe try to place the inputs horizontally next to each other. Right now they take up a whole row, but they have a single number inside. Too much space. If they are next to each other, the whole interface can probably fit on a single page without scrolling.

Should definitely be below. Looks much better that way, in my opinion.

I spend way too much time staring at screens, so recently I decided to take some things offline. Now I write my tasks on paper notes and pin them to a real-life pin board. Quite satisfying take a note off and tear it up when I’m done. 😄

Interestingly, when I click over to see the waitlist (which is beautiful by the way), the join button is not visible until I open it in a “real” browser. Even though every browser is Safari on iOS. There is no scroll either, so at first I thought it was just a landing page without the button.

I don’t think I ever used the extension store to discover something, I went there to type in “uBlock Origin”, or something I needed and I knew its name. So, marketing is definitely a must.

I've been writing the terms of service and privacy policy for remake, and it really changes your perspective. When you sign up somewhere, you just skip that stuff (🤫). But when you have to write your own, you see how much every line actually matters. 🤯 How do you create your TOS? #buildinpublic

Nowadays it is quite trendy to leave the cloud, so I don’t think you’ll regret your decision. There are also solutions to make your servers behave in a more cloudy way, if you miss that.

I've been around the build-in-public crowd for a while now and noticed something kind of obvious: people who build stuff they actually want to use keep going much longer. So yeah, I think the best advice still holds. Build what you'd actually use.

Me: I’ll just tweak the layout a bit before bed. Also me, 3 hours later: “What if I rebuild the editor architecture entirely?” 😅 Thankfully, I resisted the urge. 😄 #buildinpublic

Spain. To be honest, an English app might not be most appropriate for most spaniards, so I get that enabling Spain could cause other support related issues as well. But I wanted to see how it is and wondered why it wasn’t available. Anyway, good luck with it! 💪

Important, but not in a way you might think. What you have to pay attention to is that it is easy to write down if you just say it out loud to people. But for starters you can always add a “get”, “app”, “up” or other startup related prefix or suffix. When you are rich you can buy the .com. 🙂
