The insurance cos make their money statistically. But due to the strict regulations around medical care, it's expressed in making billing as transparent and incremental as possible. They have to pay for treatment, so they ensure the treatment is clearly documented and not puffed.

Excellent and comprehensive. Maybe you share a room, but the care is fast and good. The insurance cos compete on add-ons and extras, because core medical care is price locked.

Its a governmentally mandated universal health system. The prices are fixed, and the insurance companies must offer the minimum standard care. Which is quite solid. There is a private hospital layer above it, where costs arent mandated and people pay for private insurance The normal ppl level is

Paid fully by insurance. Now if I was in Canada, same salary, I'd get Medicare. Long waits on many things due to lack of equipped centers. I'd also be paying 50% tax as opposed to about 26% here, and the delta would be around 50k I'll take 4k/yr with 3.5k deductible over 50k and poor service

Meaning max annual cost not including meds copay would be about 7.5kchf. After that point, all free. To compare my insurance panel (max franchise, supplemental for eyes and semi-private rooms. Call it about 9kchf/pa. Paid cost and franchise. Once that 3.5k franchise is covered, everything else ...

Here the big hospitals are usually based around a uni. They're all privately owned (tho some are foundations):but with all aspects governmentally mandated. Basic care is comprehensive, with a capped, variable copay depending on the program. IIRC annual at max copay is about 4ķ/yr with 3500 franchise

Changing the way the single payer is implemented profoundly. One poor bugger in my father's radiation cadre had to drive from Yarmouth to Halifax to get his balls nuked. 400km. Because only Halifax has radiotherapy equipment

It works because its a small country with lots of solid medical centers. Canada, on the other hand has lots of geography and few comprehensive care centers. Nothing can really fix that and tho the gov tries it still bottlenecks and hurts rural communities. But its as good as it can be without...

Insurance here covers international- except the US, for obvious reasons. I'm not a yank nor defending the yank system. I grew up with single payer and have seen the ups and downs of it. Insurance in Switzerland is mandatory and price controlled. Everyone is covered.

Sorry, wrong use of %. Pay 60% less tax. Insurance minimum about 4k, governmentally capped and costs regulated. It works. Here. Not sure it'd work in a bigger country.

Well, as a Canadian I like the Swiss system due to 30% less tax, and better coverage all around. But as I said, small country. I look at the mandatory private as a different form of taxation. Just much less than what I'd pay in Canada.

One of mine loves taking her poos while looking at, but not actually stepping into the litter box. Also, shower poos! But she's a shelter rescue and never learned to cat properly, so we love her anyway. Rare box pic attached. She only got in to annoy Kitten (the box queen)

Can't be gamed like that here. Doc only can bill for face time. Or email time... I've had a few aggregate bills for email scrip renewals. They wait until the billing # is worth billing for. A 3chf bill would just piss everyone off.

With (in one clinic I used near a uni) having 7 rooms, 1 doc, and a bunch of techs because nurses were unionized and expensive. Techs would do all the work except diagnosis, prescriptions, and (most importantly for the location) signing doctors notes. Dude was shuttling back and forth making bank

Biggest difference I noticed from Canadian model single payer is that they bill by the service (like blood draws) or the minute (consultations) here. Last I was living in Canada (25yrs or so ago) docs got paid fixed fee per consultation for clinic visits. This led to horrible visit farming...

Let them go full American. It works here, but admittedly its a small country with easy access to many hospitals. Bigger countries (like Canada or Australia) have geographic scale to deal with.

Here in Switzerland it's mandated private- but prices are set (unless you go private) and billing is transparent. It works pretty well, and with set prices the insurance cos keep costs down because they can't legally screw you. Well, no more than usual for insurance. Key point, government doesn't...

Mine was closer to 45 min. Worst bit about the procedure was boredom... tho the right side bled and left me with a truly impressive hematoma! Many days with a bag of frozen peas down my undies ensued. 15 min? I'm jealous.

Did I share the bite scars? They have very sharp teeth. Pookie only bit me once, establishing boundaries. Once was enough. He bit across my wrist and opened a vein on the other side. I'd tried to grab him the way I'd grab an iggy. He'd have none of that. But if I picked him up gently around his...

The kids on the bus thing only resolved when I hit my growth spurt and went from 5'7 to 6' over a summer. Which was also when I finally grew into my feet. 5'7 with size 12 wides is... very hobbitish.

I'm with you on nuclear annihilation and the big kids on the bus. Apparently I was so distressed (at about 8, so 84-5?) by the news my folks had to stop keeping CBC radio on when I was around.

Hells bells. Not even a decade ago I had to do my MBA module finals by hand, proctored and timed. It sucked, after 20ish years only typing. (Thankfully covid times let me do the last 3 online. I think accounting would have broken me otherwise)

Heh. I get it. If I ever find myself in getting a dog territory (Swiss apartment life isn't what I'd want for a dog), it'll likely be a wirehaired dachshund- so I can call it Wing Commander Evelyn Chomondely-Smythe, as their moustaches and eyebrows demand!

All those imported beliefs of philosophies (pick your poison for terms) layered across the folk religion, mixed and blended into something amazing. As a friend in Harbin said about burning hell money "Its bad enough being dead. Who wants to be dead AND poor?"

I miss the wonderful diversity of Chinese religious practices. From the paper funerary condos and forex hell money to the head-trip which is the surfing Buddhas... don't miss the fire alarm from when an elderly neighbor decided to burn her offerings in the stairway for convenience tho.
