I plan on getting back to looking for an agent for this series really soon. But in the mean time, I am still looking for test readers! So if anyone is interested in test reading Clipped Wings Books 2 & 3, just let me know, and we can discuss if you can join the reading crew!

So, yesterday the first person ever (who isn't me) finished reading Clipped Wings in its entirety. I am quite emotional about this! This series is starting to feel real now that other people can experience it all! #writing #fantasywriting

...I'm realizing something. Did... people really have pop quizzes in schools? Like really? I don't think my schools ever did them. Ever. Grade school, high school, college... Maybe once in my whole life I can't remember? We seriously didn't do them. Is that weird?

Thank you! I’m starting to feel a lot better at this point. Probably well enough to return to work, but I’m waiting until I finish my antibiotics before I return.

Sorry I've been so quiet lately here. I actually ended up getting very very sick. I've missed several weeks of work, and my one attempt at returning resulted in me being sent to the ER and hospitalized for a few days. It's been a slow recovery. But I'm getting better!

Today, January 3rd is Prince Dyric’s celebrated birthday! He’s been in my life a long time now, and his birthday is really special to me. I plan to make 3 illustrations of him from the 3 books. I started with book 2 because it was the simplest! #ocsky #author #booksky #artsky

Colored illustration of Prince Dyric as he is in book 2 of Clipped Wings: a ten year old boy recovering from losing his wings. He sits happily atop one of the circus’s wagons. He smiles sweetly down at the viewer as the sun is eclipsed by him.

It’s tricky figuring out the subtle changes of this kid’s face as he grows up 3 years, but the changes are there!

Prince Dyric age 9-10, still looks very kid-ish. He’s friendly, happy, and healthy.

Prince Dyric age 10-11. He’s growing up and going through stuff. He has slightly fancier clothes, but he’s a bit sicklier and has lost his wings. He’s happy but worn.

Prince Dyric age 12. Starting to hit puberty and look like a young teen. He has his wings back and looks healthy. He’s dressed in a really fancy costume of indigo trimmed with gold. He’s fairly confident now, though still curious.

Sharing Dyric’s age model sheet today, the day between his likely Birthday and his Adoption Day/Celebrated Birthday! #ocsky #bookcharacter #authorsky #author #fantasycharacter #artsky

Character reference sheet of Prince Dyric of Gepara from the Clipped Wings trilogy showing his growth across the three books. In book one he is 9-10, in book two he is 10-11, and in book three he is 12. In book two he has lost his wings. He has them back in book three, much bigger, and he is dressed fancier.

Wick P. Crow @crowwingedangel.bsky.social · 01/01/2025

Here are some separated close ups! I love to see Dyric and Lusicar next to each other. Sad fact, I never did settle who was taller until making this now: Lusicar was taller in book 1, but Dyric passed him in book 2, and will stay taller into adulthood, or more accurately, Lusicar will stay smaller.

Prince Lusicar and Prince Dyric (in his casual wear from the circus as Avian at this point) from book 1, about age 9. Lusicar is a little taller and a little rounder than his brother. Dyric has grown wings.

Prince Lusicar (both showing his true form which is now part cheetah from the waist down, as well as his cursed disguise appearance) and Prince Dyric (dressed in casual Airshian wear, as he’s still in the circus known as Avian. He has lost his wings.) in book two, which is about ages 10-11. Both boys are a bit thinner than they were, their hair a little overgrown, and they are both unwell, Dyric especially so.

Prince Dyric and Prince Lusicar, as they appear in book 3, at age 12. Dyric is dressed in fancy circus wear that also looks princely. His wings are back and much bigger and he looks healthy again. Lusicar looks himself, along with the cheetah legs and tail, has his weight back, and looks better spirited. Both are starting to look like young teen princes… with some animal curses attached.

Seeing as it’s New Year’s, have my new age ref of the New Year’s Twin Princes, Lusicar II and Dyric! It’s so cool to me to be able to look and see the differences of them across the books. I’ve been writing book 3 for so long looking back at where they were is…wow! #ocsky #authorsky #artsky

Character ref for Prince Lusicar II and Prince Dyric of Gepara going over the ages of the boys, 9-10 in book 1, 10-11 in book 2, and 12 in book 3. Dyric loses his wings in book 2, and has them back bigger in book 3. In book three he is also dressed more fancy. Lusicar gets glasses in. Book 2, as well as has a disguise spell, that also hides that he becomes part cheetah. Book three Lusicar is himself.

In Gepara, the celebration of New Years is compounded with a 4 day celebration of the “twin” princes’ birthdays: Dec 31 & Jan 3. However, Prince Dyric was only adopted Jan 3. He was most likely born a day or so before… No one knows for sure, but it was likely New Years Day itself. #Ocsky #authorsky

It’s prince Lusicar’s Birthday! I didn’t make any fancy art of him, but I DID finally start making a proper reference, at least showing his ages across the three books! His role is small in book 1, but in the others, he goes through a LOT! 👑🪄🐆 #OCSky #booksky #characterdesign #bookcharacter

Character design lineup showing young Prince Lusicar across a few years of growing up throughout the Clipped Wings books. By book three he is part cheetah and finally has a smile.

I can finally share the three #arts I did for the @foxglovecomics.com Secret Santa! First one was for my own recipient, then I did two Secret Santa commissions for others' gifts :D I'm really happy with them (and happy I was able to find some time and energy between illnesses to get them done lol)

There is something so tricky and frustrating about wanting to talk about a character’s development and planning with someone to work out some issues, but being as they’re heavy end of series spoilers, most friends don’t want me to say anything. #writing #author #ocsky

I like watching different versions of A Christmas Carol (one of my favorite stories) every year. And in many versions I often find that Bob Cratchit is a good look alike for Ricaru. If anyone reads Clipped Wings and tries to picture Ricaru, just try to picture Bob Cratchit if he were ginger.

Finished commission of IO for scribbly-blue-hearts over on Tumblr! She was a lot of fun to do, as wings are my favorite thing to draw and color! I read Sirocco to prep. Read it all in one day, due to enjoying it and flight delays as I was traveling! Ironic, really. #OCSky #BookSky #Commissions
