Biggest harvest yet! The old saying is “when it’s ripe, it’s gone.” And some sort of rodent almost proved it right today. Still these were about ten pounds in total before slicing. Best cantaloupe crop I’ve ever had, and all from a store melon seed. #gardening

We cut the melon for lunch today, and the flesh is firmer than I would have liked, but it has a nice subtle flavor. I thought it would be sweeter. Definitely NOT a Hami melon though. Standard cantaloupe.

My #dog has been sniffing around after something in the garage. I should trust her that when she does that, there really is something. That’s a 6+ foot long black #snake hiding in my #garden supply shelves. It stretched the whole of the 4’ wide shelf, and then at least 3 more feet.

If the sun blazes, let’s use it. Making sun tea this morning in the #solar cooker, and in a big big development, my wife actually suggested that she use the solar oven to make banana bread! 1Kw of free carbonless cooking power that doesn’t heat up the house, and banana bread too. 😁

My mountain mint is about to bloom, and the lemon balm has exploded. Can’t tell from that angle, but that lemon balm is about four feet tall! Going to again have a yard full of happy #pollinators. #gardening

Anyone in the Charlottesville area need some cantaloupe starts? Discovered today that apparently ALL of the seeds I started from a generic grocery store melon have sprouted. I was expecting 10% or so. #gardening

Bought nearly $500 worth of fruit trees at ediblelandscaping.com yesterday (they’re having a sale!) Now I have to plant these monsters, and protect most of them from the white tailed rats. #gardening
