Significant that Musk's pitch for Grok being funny didn't go any further than it being able to be sarcastic and snarky and edgy, all of which can be (and were) done at a very shallow level without expressing any actual humour.

"Folk roundels" (which is what I assumed you meant to type, until I got to the end) is actually a nice way of thinking about them.

There must always be serious tension in the room over whether the malfunctioning machine is going to thrash around powerfully and unpredictably, and injure the speaker or the crew. Unlike a clumsy human, we don't have a consensus expectation of how a robot will and won't act after falling over.

Such a funny and well-timed parallel between Farage concealing his finances and Binface concealing his face. Very nice usage of Farage's dismissive "oh here we go, nobody wants to know" stance when Newsnight tried to get him to drop character and take the bin off, the other night.

Knowing that you do AI joke photos, though, I find myself instinctively disengaging from an image like that, to avoid remembering it as real and repeating it as an observation about the pub when talking to someone else. Really does feel like using occasional AI images undermines all the others.

Reading you a couple of years ago I would have assumed as much, no explanation necessary. Vandalism from some recent time where the site owners didn't notice or care enough to fix it before your photographer or a reader got that photo. Good picture, effective visual shorthand.

Disappointed to see AI generated joke photos again. It's obviously fake in that case, but it means that when you share an apparent photo of the Leslie Arms with the sign spelling "SHIT ARSE", I don't know if you're reporting on what the pub looks like today or faking it from the archives as a joke.

See, that comment is a much better one, because you're a human who's speculating based on their own cultural knowledge, and is aware of its limits, and I can read it as such. Thank you.

And "led" in the past tense. It seems to be unintentional or forgotten, though, at least from this quote.
"One of the funny things about thinking up names for fictional characters is that, as soon as you suggest one, it sounds totally unlikely," says Bob, who admits that they dreamt up the names Tom and Barbara Good before finding a title for the series.
"We called the characters Tom and Barbara and thought of the surname afterwards. Then the title became one of those screamingly obvious things, and we wondered why we hadn't thought of it in the first place. But titles are like that."
John and Bob have no idea where the name Leadbetter came from. "I haven't a clue, says John with a shrug, "but it has a certain poshness about it."
"I don't know where that one came from, either," adds Bob. "But the name Margo instantly sounded right for the character and was a good name to say. Jerry, though, was a joke initially. We thought, we've got Tom, so we might as well have Jerry to go with him. But, again, the name seemed to suit."

I mean, fair play to them, really, if they've decided to open for just a couple of hours and then close again, with the heat warnings coming into effect that morning. They're letting some people who urgently need passports get them.

Good to see. I don't know how you're buiding the feed, but could you have the plain URL instead of the word "link", in the post? It's prompting a cautious popup saying "This link is taking you to the following website:" from Bluesky when clicked, requiring another click to actually visit the link.

Worth reconsidering your use of AI-generated photos in stories, even when the joke seems obvious; it undermines how much people feel they can trust what they're reading. A cartoon would be better. From reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk/digital-news...:
