Une nouvelle étude française révèle que des moustiques apprennent à associer le DEET, principal répulsif anti-moustique, à une récompense alimentaire. L’odeur normalement répulsive devient attractive, révélant ainsi les capacités d’apprentissage de ces insectes vecteurs de maladies. 🦟

DEET is a key insect repellent that stops mosquitoes from biting but now research by @crlazzari.bsky.social & co reveals that the insects can learn to associate DEET with dinner if they smell it when dining on blood, leading them to bite people using DEET doi.org/10.1242/jeb....

Combien de temps un moustique peut-il survivre sans piquer un humain ?
Contrairement à ce que l’on pourrait penser, tous les moustiques ne se nourrissent pas de sang et même ceux qui le font n’en ont pas besoin en permanence pour survivre.
